Cricket

Went to the cricket today.

I thought in the 1st session only Cummins really looked like getting a wicket and he hit 3 good balls (will come to Hameeds below) to get out Hameed, Crawley and Malan.

Hameed has been slammed all week for getting too far forward, reckon that criticism is in his head as the ball he probably should have got forward to, he then didn't and nicked it behind. I liked Crawley but got a very good ball from Cummins as did Malan. Starc bowled way too wide, didn't force the batsmen to play at all.

2nd session I though Root was looking terrific, playing the ball very well, before playing at the one he shouldn't do with a very poor shot. Stokes and Buttler I shake my head at, dumb, dumb, dumb shots.

Whats more to say about the English bowling. They've been bagged from kingdom come saying they were bowling too short, Root has a go at them for bowling too short, so what did they do when they got in????? Back of a length would do. You seriously couldn't make this *smile* up if you tried.

Just grab 11 blokes from the balmy army , have to be at least as competitive.

IMHO we look to be building towards another very good side again, Cummins, labuschange, Green and there’s a few good young spinners coming on

Has Michael Vaughan been part of the coverage all summer?

Haven't noticed him before. Bit of a shock Uncle Rupe would turn a blind eye to racism.
This is his first Test. He had a Covid issue and only got here a week or so ago. He did a few BBL games before the Test.

It would seem logical that we’re gonna have huge issues with the AFL again next year too.
Absolutely will.
So the only answer is to carry on and ignore covid over winter.
By then all who want to be vaccinated will have been. It really is very close now to the time we truly live vaccinated with covid.
No other way or the season will be farcical.

Said it in Adelaide, and say it again, can’t believe Wood wasn’t selected for the Adelaide test. He’s very quick, there’s not many batsmen that aren’t troubled by express pace.

Every time I see 'The Richies' or another group of identically dressed blokes I'm reminded of the insecure conformity of young men. If one bloke alone dressed like that, the same guys would ridicule him. When they all do it, it's "aren't we characters?"

No good if he only bowls 2 over spells.

Jack Leach picked for his batting?

He's carrying a foot injury that I assume they are trying to manage. The idea was to play faster bowlers, but losing both Archer and Stone to injury hasn't helped as would have provided us the ability to rotate him out without losing that pace. The one thing that confuses me about this strategy is Saqib Mahmood has been touted as a future test bowler for England, bowls mid 140's (currently playing in the BBL) has not been called up. Sure, he probably goes for more runs, but this game is about wickets. Players like Woakes have proven time and time again, that they are frankly rubbish outside of England. Reece Topley is the other one (also playing BBL), he's similar pace to the others but bowls left armed so gives some variation in line.

England seem very conservative this tour in terms of their bowling options. Picking Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Robinson and Overton amongst 6 fast bowling options is very one paced, and all right armers. No variation at all. Sure injuries have hurt as I suspect ideally Archer and Stone would have been there instead of Woakes and Overton, but the selections following that have been very conservative.

Leach is weird. Bats with glasses on, bowls without. Does he wear contacts for bowling? If so, why doesn't he wear contacts for batting? If he doesn't wear contacts when fielding, how does he see properly where he wants to pitch the ball?

And he bowls left arm, throws right arm.

Good bowling this morning from England, much better length.

Now to see what Head has. He's largely batted with zero pressure this series, he's batted well but under no pressure, hence why his strike rate is at 93 in the series. You don't usually score at nearly a run a ball in test cricket when there is pressure on you. Interesting to see how he faces up here, try and play a bit more within himself and a bit more defensively or will he play his shots.

Looks like Norcimo doesn't want to see the useless Poms bore us to hell and wants to cancel the next 2 tests.
