Cricket

Both Richardson and Neser out for Boland and Cummins.
Perfect time to see what Boland has to offer.
I thought Richardson was poor in the first innings, maybe some nerves, better in the second, but with no pressure on Boland and at the MCG it is the right time.

Has to be amongst the most unlucky cricketers ever in terms of not getting international opportunities.

An amazing striker of the ball, good bloke and handy fielder and part time offie. Should have played 50 tests.
And was far and away the best T20 batsman in the country for years.

Boland??? Surely not.

It was the 246 not out he made against India at Headingley in 1967.
The Wisden Book of Test Cricket says this ...

"Boycott's 246 not out was scored off 555 balls in 573 minutes and included a six and 29 fours; it remains the highest innings by either side in this series and he shared in hundred partnerships for three successive wickets. His first hundred occupied 341 minutes (316 balls) and he was excluded from the next Test as a disciplinary measure".

Note: By "series" that book means every Test ever between the two countries, and it is no longer the highest anyway, now fourth.

A bit rough I think. He opened the batting, his partner, Edrich, made 1 and they were 1 for 7, and England won by six wickets.
England made 4/126 declared in the second innings and Boycott did not bat.
Reckon there is more to that story.
Both Bedi and Surti (ave 45+) got injured on the first day and India were only left with Prasanna, Chandra and the pop gun medium Guha (ave 100+). He only scored 100 or so on the first day on a perfect track. He picked it up on the second day after a rocket was sent up him for his selfishness.

Apparently Scotty Boland is to make his test debut tomorrow. Radio saying he’s gunna replace Jhye Richardson! Surely not.

Ciummins back in but Hazelwood to miss, Starc is fit apparently.

So Cummins, Starc, Boland but surely Neser makes way for Boland instead of Richardson?
It’s being said that Richardson has a niggle and is being rested.

Are there any decent quick bowlers under 30 in Australia? Neser 31, Boland nearly 33, hardly long term solutions.
I don't begrudge either of them the opportunity, but where are the long term Starc, Hazelwood & Cummins replacements, Richardson aside?

Happy to see anyone get an opportunity, but if Boland is now deemed good enough for Test cricket, then the fact that it's taken 10 years to determine that must be considered an indictment on the structure of cricket in Australia.
First class average of 26 nothing to sneeze at though.

Pattinson chose the wrong time to retire , or is he unfit as well.
Body letting him down. Claimed when he announced he was giving up the long game that he was struggling to even pick up his kids n play with them.

Question for the cricket gurus , as the clear best pace bowler in the world, why doesn’t the Skip always take the new ball?
Could be a few reasons. He's not really a swing bowler, whereas Starc is and Hazlewood gets it to nibble about and has the best seam position of the three. Cummins might prefer a little shine off the ball as well, for control's sake.

I had a couple of bonus bets expiring yesterday, so I'm riding Cummins most wickets 1st innings into Robinson most wickets into Malan/Stokes top score, so Paddy knocking over Root before lunch would be good thanks.

Two down before drinks is a great start but still not a fan of sending them in.

Needed it after sending them in.

Cummins is the Golden Boy. Not a bad show on him on Fox/Kayo. I remember that debut in South Africa, I was texting people telling them we'd found our next great fast bowler. Overcame a huge injury struggle and now top of the world.
