Re: Cricket

Australia are looking to regain the ashes tommorow, a draw is about a 10% chance and i really hope its a draw so its still alive in melbourne, first session is so so cruital, cant lose a wicket in the first session.

Re: Cricket

I want to pummel them as quick as possible, have you guys forgot how the worst sporting nation per capita celebrated an the ticker tape parade an the knighting of half there bloody duds.
Destroy them as quick an painfall as possible :bash :bash.

By the way I just watched Bodyline on the history channel ;D

Re: Cricket

i cant see us doing much tomorrow, aussie will get ashes.....a few costly errors by the umpires were very cruical against engaldn i feel

aussies have been better though

Re: Cricket

I was surprised at Ponting’s declaration on Saturday night. I thought he may have batted the day out and posted a 600 run lead. Isn’t the first thing you do before declaring, is to put the potential for losing absolutely 100% beyond doubt ? Especially with a 2-0 lead in a 5 game series ?

He declared with 2 days remaining…on a pretty good pitch….and against a side who had just scored 550+ in the test before.

Just as well McGrath came through for us late last night, because that “potential” was still well and truly there up until that point last night imo.

Disagree,Good declaration which netted early wicket of Strauss.Ponting also allowed for bad weather & despite the Pom's good batting yesterday they have a long tail & an out of form Flintoff.

I still think the Poms are slightly in it.The key is Flintoff. If he can still be there after the 1st hr with Peterson and add 30-40 runs and play positive cricket then who knows. If they go out and be defensive then their stuffed even for a draw.

Exactly. The elimination of "potential" issue is something that all good captains subscribe to.

Putting them in with a draw being their absolute only hope would have put England on the back foot immediately and meant that they had to go in with a completely defensive mindset - rather than the slightly opportunistic one we gave them.

Lets face it, as Rod Marsh alluded too on the weekend we all love Punter and he's a great bat, but as a captain he still has a ways to go.

Interestingly i watched the "Aussie goes Barmy Army" on fox 8 yesterday and a member of the "BA" mentioned that most in the "BA" rate Punter as the worst skipper going around ATM,Tatically wise he,s a lemon is their opinion.
Although he did say if you have Shane Warne at one end you can afford to be a lemon :hihi :hihi :hihi

Pieterson would need to make 150-200 for Poms to have any chance & also have batting partners staying around with him. Can't see it happening.

Re: Cricket

The Poms should be out of it now, but with 15 minutes to go last night, nobody was saying that at all. In fact, Tubby Taylor mentioned the possibility of them winning a few times.

That is a position that Ponting could have ...and should have....avoided.

Geez more dribble from Red that should be consigned to the Soft Thread. Good declaration I reckon. How many times have teams batting last made over 500 to win a test, or over 400 or even 300.

I want you to tell me that at 2-261 last night there was absolutely not one shred of a thought in your mind that England could win this test. And if you do Jockburn, then you're a liar and thus should be banished to the realms of Softsider threads like "Who's your favourite player ?" ! !  !

Are you people serious? Declaring and setting them 557 to win is "giving them a chance"? WTF.

No one thought 430+ could be run down in a 50 over game but Sth Africa did it last year.....Did anyone think England would knock up 550+ for only 6 wickets in Adelaide, 1st innings, after their showing in Brisbane ? If (admittedlty , a big 'if') England are still batting by the end of today, they'll have won the test .

Agree with Redford.Reckon batting on yesterday towards a lead of 650+ would have totally & utterly played the Poms out of the game & perhaps further sap any resistance as their cause would have been rendered hopeless.

Peterson is more than capable of getting 200.The only Pom who is dominating Warne.Flintoff is due just like Gilly was ;D.

Re: Cricket

Flintoff on the attack nearly out caught & bowled by Lee & next ball skied one over covers.Living dangerously.
