Another soft dismal for Martyn after getting a start.

Coming through, Dead man walking.

You think so? 29 for Martyn is worth a century for anyone else in the eyes of the selectors. They bought him back when he had done absolutely nothing and at an age you'd think they'd be retiring most players. Rationality and performance have little to do with much of Australian selection, it's all about incumbency and who you know. Unfortunately he'll be here for a while yet.

Cant agree there, he play great in the Champs Trophy so he kind of did something, altho this i think will be his last series, which leaves a sport open for possibly Hodge, or a perminent spot for Clarke

I was talking about when he was recalled from state ranks, after he was told by the selectors that he had to regain his form to be considered again for Australian national squad. Well after a season there his average was so abysmal any other player would have been dropped from the WA side, but not Martyn, instead he was recalled to the Australian team. I remember listening to that clown Trevor Holmes on SEN trying to justify his selection, he simply couldn't and he got the bucketing from the commentators and callers there that he deserved. Again the Australian selectors make up the rules as they go along.

Re: Cricket

KP turning it a long way.

S.K Warne must be just licking his chops about now. This could be over in 4 days.

Re: Cricket

Good to see Langer pick up a good score despite the knockers.

Great work from Ponting and Hussey, Martyn - what can you say? He should never have been selected again.

Re: Cricket

I've never considered Ponting a great captain, but he is an incredible batsman.
Did anyone see the pull shot for 4 off his front foot?

Maaaaaarvelous

Thing is, Martyn was in top form in the Champs.Trophy.

Re: Cricket

I am usually the first to bag Ponting, but i actually think he should be captaining.

His consistency which i found worrying in the past hasn't been a problem for a while now.

Re: Cricket

day one over---aussie supporters getting cocky again.
werrivee u12's could have made 342-3 on that pitch on day one....
no movement at all, and a very flat pitch....

england do have to make more than 350 when they bat.

dad's army arent over the line yet

lucky they batted first or england would be 342-3

Re: Cricket

Which of our bowlers would have bowled the rubbish that Harmison sent down?

I wouldn't be too worried about the Poms. Hoggard will be a good stock bowler in Australia, no more and if Harmison doesn't click (and he hasn't for quite some time) it will all fall to Flintoff. As great as he is he can't do it all. As for Giles :rofl.

It will be interesting to see how they go with the bat. Cook and Bell are the keys IMO. Cook can play and if he stands up to the pressure will make a big difference. The question with Bell is has he really improved or will the Aussies find him out again. If these two struggle (I'm assuming the others will do ok) they have no depth outside the team to give them much hope.

Have to agree

A bowling attack half comprised by a geriatric McGrath and another 30 plus medium pacer in Clark is not the most intimidating that Australia has ever fielded (you can imagine the collective sigh of relief in the English camp when Tait was sent home). Lee can't bowl for long spells (it's not his Job) and Warne can't do it all. Australia could well be in for a very long grind in the field (assuming that England’s confidence hasn't been shot to pieces).

Re: Cricket

If Pieterson can get bounce and turn on that wicket would love to see what S.K.Warne does, expecially with cracks later on. Already Harmison has a fragile mind and Flintoff lacks supports in the bowling.
England need to play for a draw as they wont win this.
