If there's nothing incriminating in the national cabinet meeting minutes, why are they trying to desperately to keep them hidden from the public? Even liberal party members are crossing the floor to vote against it because they're sick of the lack of accountability of this government.

If the national cabinet minutes made the federal government look good, there's no doubt they'd be releasing them.

Vote against what?
The only liberals in National Cabinet are PM and Premiers of NSW, SA and Tas. I doubt anyone votes - just reach consensus. (but maybe they should issue the minutes as clearly they all take their own notes and work off them)

Minutes of the Vic Crisis Cabinet - are you calling for them ? Cabinet papers are sealed for 30? years.

I guess when I reflect, I am anti-mandatory-vax, whilst thinking the best thing for society is the government coercing everyone to get vaccinated

The guy standing in front of the tanks is a universally-recognised symbol of resistance to tyranny and has been parodied many times. Don't think there's as much to the cartoon as you're reading into it.

So the question is why was it then pushed out to 6 weeks in between?

Earlier medical studies found six weeks provided an optimum level of protection. Pfizer's own website advocates three weeks, but not sure how long that recommendation has been up for. Advice is constantly being updated.

I go back to the start of this wave - Delta. I am not a reader of the epidemiology, I just hear what CHO and all the other experts say - Delta is X times more transmissible / catchable than the 2020 variant.

The restrictions in Victoria in 2021 were by and large what we had last year. Even if we had the same degree of adherence to rules there would be greater transmission. I think the NSW experience showed that in July/ August. They got away with it last year, not this year.

eg I have no evidence but would mask / distancing regs in construction tea rooms be adhered to at higher levels last year?
Do you think the large families of northern Melbourne mixed less last year? There are the same number of multi family households as there were last year etc.
work place transmission is still occurring.

So I think the ingredients were all there for us to follow the NSW trajectory.
It has been accelerated by:
1) more "permitted workers" - these are not essential workers - just someone who can get a boss to sign a form
2) complacency of the VACCINATED, have the superman cape
3) Lockdown fatigue - young people in particular (staying at home was the last thing I ever wanted to do in my 20s - uni, sport, weekends away, pub, footy, work, parties, and repeat - two years without that .... )

I agree with most of what you've written, but i do think that restrictions were more closely adhered to last year than this year. For example, i did not go to any grand final day parties in 2020, despite very much wanting to. But there's no way of knowing for sure, i suppose.

Im in Vic & I had my 1st Pfizer on July 15 and my 2nd exactly 3 weeks later on the 5th August.

Pfizer had that shorter period between doses based on the early data. Was spaced out to be more conservative and also to give more first doses out.

People jumping at shadows here - its all about getting people vaxxed faster, contingent on supply.

Throw in Leunig's very well-known anti-vax stance and your interpretation becomes a massive overread IMO. It's a simple visual with a simple message. Vaccination is tyranny. Leunig may be smart but when it comes to polemical political positions otherwise intelligent people become raging *smile*-gibbons. (I do it myself).

I'm also anti-mandatory vax but must admit my opinion changes often on this. I have no problems with employers/schools etc being mandatory, they are at legal risk if they don't after all.

Would seem that NSW should be more scared of those parties in Sydney and Penrith but I guess their higher vaccination levels will help somewhat.

Ok. Was not aware of this push. As National cabinet comprises both side of the aisle it will be hilarious watching them try and score points from the same words.

What ticking time bombs do you think are in these minutes? And if so why haven't they leaked out? It's not just the 7 or 9 chiefs in the room there are all their aides in the back rows. And any premier would use anything disclosed in cabinet to there advantage. Albanese probably has a transcript.

I don't really know, I'm just a joe-schmo who's suspicious of the Morrison's motivations, in the same way that others are distrusting of Andrews and his motivations.

Possibly it will highlight Morrison's lack of leadership with the early stages of the pandemic, particuarly his role in handballing quarantine to the states. Its just strange the lengths they're going to to keep it quiet.
