Coronavirus

You are entitled to a different interpretation of that cartoon but I'm buggered if I can imagine what an alternative take might be. Bit weird given you are in favour of mandatory vaccinations IIRC?

im as confounded by your interpretation as you are by mine,

which is always a good starting point,

to end with

Caveat: If it becomes apparent Im in agreement with L2 on this, then change my POV 180 degrees please?

I haven't commented on the newspaper bit . I have been a critic of Dan's style going back to pre COVID days

I have commented last year on how the security firms were appointed last year and I know a few people who have some knowledge of what happened although not directly involved themselves. I said at the time that knowing the public service and how it works I could totally understand how such decisions could be made in a way that was described by the Royal Commissioner. There was such chaos in the DH and Dept of jobs and precincts then.

I am not defending it and ultimately the Premier is responsible for everything that happens in the state public sector but I do understand how it could happen the way it appears to have.
Sin.. not u sorry, im rushing comments as working. Meant a touch earlier that started replies with me. Sorry hope it clears it up

Haha. Talking of the failures in HQ last year and over 800 deaths. Give u a spell, yeah blame a newspaper for a current outbreak or go the deflection on another issue. Typical bias BS. Extrodinary funny. A newspaper criminal guilty of a covoid outbreak. Yeah no worries peddling a tune at a street corner. Newspaper hahahahaha, your a crack me up. Yeah heaven forbid someone says something against the govt. Its not China or Turkey the way they control narratives. Keep peddling. Gave me a great laugh.

You're actually the one deflecting from the current issues. The HQ saga was mid-2020. Splashed on the front page of today’s Herald Scum. Its just deflecting from the root cause of why we are in the position we are currently in. Its not a coincidence “#MurdochRiots” has been trending number 1 all week. Victorians are angry at them.

Clutching at straws Ian when you start quoting Malcolm Turnbull ;) , ( jilted PM scorned ).

I think Turnbull is a tool, but it doesn't mean he is wrong in this circumstance. history will not look too kindly on the Morrison government.

Which is why Scott is desperately trying to keep national cabinet deliberations under wraps.
Not sure what you are driving at here? I thought what happened at national cabinet was public knowledge. After all One PM and 6 State Premiers tell us after each meeting (in 7 different ways)

Pfizer doses now three weeks apart in Vic. Wonder whether Dan was panicked into it?

The Vic gov were always looking at changing the second dose interval if they could confirm supply for the end of October and beyond. That was finally confirmed yesterday and now they've brought it forward. There's certainly urgency now that we've had multiple super spreading events.

p.s. that article is dreadfully conceived and constructed. Its unsurprising that as a long term Guardian subscriber, I have never heard of Eleanor Robertson

Maybe it is, and it's from 6 years ago so maybe the writer isn't with the Guardian any more.. Point is he's equating vaccinations with fascism for a long time.

I don't follow his cartoons any more but the article says he comes down pretty hard on mums who put their kids in childcare as well. That sucks too.

the babies in childcare cartoon furore was 10 years ago.

I loved that cartoon as well.

I reckon the mob rallies last week should all be tier 1 sites.
Anyone who attended should not be able to attend constructions sites for 2 weeks, when they reopen. And if they do those sites should be shut down.

Interesting situation in Warrnambool. Over 90% of eligible have had first vaccination which is brilliant. But it’s been confirmed by the local hospital that 12 new cases have been confirmed and they will go onto tomorrow’s total.

How the government respond to this will be a good indicator for how they might treat future localised outbreaks. I’m guessing it will be a 7 day lockdown to buy more time so that in the next 3 weeks it will be 90% double dosed. But it shows that this virus can and will get a hold any given time even with over 90% doing the right thing by being vaccinated.

If there's nothing incriminating in the national cabinet meeting minutes, why are they trying to desperately to keep them hidden from the public? Even liberal party members are crossing the floor to vote against it because they're sick of the lack of accountability of this government.

If the national cabinet minutes made the federal government look good, there's no doubt they'd be releasing them.

Has there been a rebalancing since NSW have got to their higher levels? Doesn't appear to be.

Whilst VIC are still scrambling around for as much Pfizer and Moderna as we can get for those under 40, NSW are now giving both of these to over 60's. Where the hell is the national strategy on this??? Slomo again just devolving decisions that he should be making to the states.

Yes if NSW have such an abundance of Pfizer & Moderna that they can offer it to all over 60's when ATAGI says AZ is suitable for over 60's then those Pfizer & Moderna doses should be distributed to Victoria or other states that are following the recommended guidelines.
NSW have done virtually nothing to promote AZ so shouldn't be rewarded with an oversupply of the alternatives.

**Edit: Health Minister Greg Hunt said this afternoon Victoria has also agreed to let all adults choose their vaccine of choice, (once again Victoria follows NSW lead ;) ).

So what do you think are the causes of the sudden spike?

I go back to the start of this wave - Delta. I am not a reader of the epidemiology, I just hear what CHO and all the other experts say - Delta is X times more transmissible / catchable than the 2020 variant.

The restrictions in Victoria in 2021 were by and large what we had last year. Even if we had the same degree of adherence to rules there would be greater transmission. I think the NSW experience showed that in July/ August. They got away with it last year, not this year.

eg I have no evidence but would mask / distancing regs in construction tea rooms be adhered to at higher levels last year?
Do you think the large families of northern Melbourne mixed less last year? There are the same number of multi family households as there were last year etc.
work place transmission is still occurring.

So I think the ingredients were all there for us to follow the NSW trajectory.
It has been accelerated by:
1) more "permitted workers" - these are not essential workers - just someone who can get a boss to sign a form
2) complacency of the VACCINATED, have the superman cape
3) Lockdown fatigue - young people in particular (staying at home was the last thing I ever wanted to do in my 20s - uni, sport, weekends away, pub, footy, work, parties, and repeat - two years without that .... )
