No. I’ve lived in some of them. I was born overseas whilst my parents were on holiday so I’ve got dual nationality and working capacity in a host of countries.

Every first world country thinks their country is the best.
I don't think we're the best, I just think that it's a pretty bloody good place to live. Though it doesn't seem like it at the moment.
If you like sports, we host an amazing amount of big international sporting events. F1 grand prix, one of the 4 tennis majors, oldest event on the world surf tour a couple of hours away, One of the biggest horse races in the world, not to mention our AFL grand final.
If you like music, we have argubaly the best music scene in the world. I do sound at a fitzroy venue that in normal times has live music seven nights a week. All bands that tour Australia will often play a couple or more shows in melbourne.
If you like food, we have world class restraunts. I could go on and on, but you just have to sometimes appreciate what we do have in this city, rather than focus on the negatives that are pretty much the same as other citys our size or bigger.

Well there’s your problem: I never said it wasn’t a good place to live. Just that others are too in comparison.

I’ll never forget that time. I had an ex special forces guy working for me then who was a closet racist nutter. He asked for a few days off with no notice when the riots started and told me he wanted to go up to Sydney to “ bash a Lebo”
I had just moved out of Sydney (after living there for 4 years) a few months prior to the Cronulla riots. Wasn't really that surprised. Had seen/heard/felt the tension building the entire time I was living there. What I did find strange was how it morphed into a kind of anti all migrants riot on the actual day. When at it's heart it really was an ongoing feeling of animosity and tension between western Sydney wannabe gangbanger Aussie-Lebs vs "Skips". A few incidents at Cronulla beach in the lead up lit the tinder that had been building up.

Idiots like your employee, plus many in the media (on both sides of the debate - either criticising or tacitly supporting the rioters) really were tone deaf to the actual intricacies of what really was going on there.

yes. I had my suspicions but he never said anything before that to confirm his true feelings.

I denied him his leave so he quit and went anyway. Said he was going to rejoin the army afterwards but I don't know if he did

I lived overseas for 15 years and when I returned about 15-16 years ago ( just a few months before the Cronulla riots) I was taken by the myopic view of the world that I felt was here. Maybe it was always here and I hadn't noticed as years overseas changes you, but I don't think it has got better or maybe it has just got more polarised.

Agree. The more you travel and live overseas the more you develop different perspectives.

The Age is reporting that vaccination will be mandatory for all staff at schools and early childhood centres; must be done by 29/11.

I wonder if we will see dog kicking, projectile throwing, car stomping; spitting, urine pouring, traffic stopping protests from this cohort? Or will they just accept that it is for the greater good of school children to get them back into school learning and socialising with peers again; and just get on with it?

All school and childcare staff in Victoria need to be vaxxed by Nov 29. Eventually it'll be the norm. Raises important ethical questions, but that's where things are heading.

Hospital workers one vax minimum by October 15th. Already in place for patient facing staff but this is everyone including back office staff. In reality it is just cleaning up the recalcitrants as all staff have had access to vax for months now.

Heh heh heh. Our golf club just sent out a no jab-no play comm saying that if restricted golf re-opens on 27-29 September you must have a first jab in order to enter the grounds. Then you’ll need a double dose circa early November. So, in other words, mandatory vaccination.

Heh heh heh can’t wait to see our one or two numptie upper class anti vax retirees storm the clubhouse in protest !

Got ten toes n ten fingers, course I can count.

Don't matter what label you stick on em, being dead is dead n we're all gunna end up there one day. Shouldn't spend so much time desperately praying to stay locked up n hiding under the bed.

Oh yeah, that old argument. "We are all going to die someday". That's true, so let's not get vaccinated, let's not go to the doctor, let's forget about public health and close all the hospitals. Because people die and we are all gonna die sometime.

PS - I'm not scared and never have been. Lived in Jakarta when people were dropping like flies all around me. Taken my vaccine, stay home to protect myself and others.
The allegation that people who care about others are "scared" is low, and it's usually peddled by anti-vaxxers.

Well they won’t get that far. Everyone has to register first before they’re allowed on course. More likely to send a few 5 irons over the fence. “Scab” protest at the front gates maybe. Hah hah hah hah “Hit it in the water you scab !” “Three putt you scab !”

Hah hah hah….

Perhaps the un-vaccinated can have 6 taken off their handicaps for the club comps, or they play off the professional tees while the vaccinated can tee up from the ladies tees.
