Coronavirus

I’ve been responsible for safety of teams in petrochemical plants. This kind of blasé attitude to following rules is the root cause of significant process safety events.
I agree.
E.g. The person who is all by themselves and doesn’t wear a mask will go inside and forget to put it back on and then get or spread to someone else who happened to be there.
Not if the rule is that masks are to be worn inside only, the rule is clearly communicated and supervision regarding compliance provided. Information on the risk should be clearly outlined which would in line likely see more buy in from staff as they could see the reasoning behind the control. I doubt many tradies see the benefits of wearing a mask when working outside in their own area.
E.g. The leader of the crew who doesn’t wear a mask is observed by the first year apprentice who decides if it’s ok for the boss to not follow the rules then it mustn’t be a big deal to not wear a mask anywhere.

Especially In the space of safety If a rule is crap we should get the rule changed - not undermine all rule following. Lots of *smile* rules aren’t good so I do have empathy that this could be a bad rule - but with that said it’s a simple rule and easy to see if it’s being followed or not.
Again l agree, I believe that the rule is flawed.
Like wearing a seat belt or putting on hearing protection you don’t need those things all the time but when you do it may be too late if you aren’t already wearing it.

it’s almost counter intuitive in a workplace to put PPE ON when you go inside - normally you take it OFF. Seems masks are the other way around so another small factor to keep them on.

separately it’s *smile* to say you can’t wear a mask in hot and enclosed spaces and when you are doing physical work. If there are particulates or toxins in the air it is common to wear particulate filter masks or even breathing gear. You may need to restrict hours and have more breaks depending on the conditions to keep it safe if it is truly hot and humid to prevent heat exhaustion - but it can be done.
Of course it’s possible, it all depends on a risk assessment and additional controls that may need to be implemented (such as additional breaks), I’m talking about the way the directions are written in relation to face coverings. If your argument is against them then fair enough.

Risk of Covid transmission outdoors is negligible/next to zero unless you’re kissing or yelling into someone’s face, people losing their minds over the construction crews not wearing their masks correctly need to settle down

So, you are just ignoring the fact that the compliance was woeful in their tea rooms which are indoors and chockers. Might want to check your facts before posting irrelevancies.

Anyone actually looked at the demo footage, lots of nice new, and very clean, hi vis there and people wearing hi vis on a day when the construction industry is closed down so they're not at work. I'm sure there are tensions within the CFMMEU but I doubt the ringleaders of these demos have been anywhere near a construction site in their lives.

Meanwhile:

Seems like the dancers, musicians, artists etc are a much tougher breed than the faux tough guys in construction (I think Virginia Trioli underestimates the job losses, more like thousands in an already precarious industry). Maybe they're just afraid of needles. Or maybe they just never grew beyond toddler age.

Loved the ANMF response, real unionists, the sort of people who are all for one and one for all. It's called solidarity you morons, we get vaccinated because we care about others than just ourselves.

Interesting development in NY city on mandated vaccines. Health staff took action against govt.
will be interesting how this pans out there

Ok, I'm not religious, but can someone explain to me the religious excuse exemption to vaccines?

How am l sure that virus spread is highly unlikely to occur outdoors (though not impossible in fairness)? Well that’s what the experts have been saying, and yes though delta may have a slightly higher risk it is still very low. has the government released figures about the amount of transmission that is likely to have occurred outdoors ?

You ask how hard it is to wear a mask properly. Depends on what you’re doing and how hot it is. Btw wearing a mask when doing physically demanding work is not mandated as it would be a safety risk (of course construction work wouldn’t involve that a lot of the time, just saying).

if someone is working in open space without anyone else in their immediate vicinity breathing on them there is no need for them to wear a mask and people shouldn’t get their knickers in a knot over it
on the last point your right. ( exemption to wearing mask) Supporting yr view see link below.

There is an exemption if working in an area by yourself. Scroll down about a third of the way its there.

Im religious but dont get it tbh DS. Within the article there are points raised.

Guessing its about changing the blood within their body from how they were born. Best i can say that i understood

Edit: i had heard here that certain religious groups had been seeking from the top religious figures if it will be okay to get vax. But dont fully understand on the ramifications if their blood is altered and impact to their beliefs

Edit 2: back your view on lack of construction workers non complaince of masks. (Same post u put)Seen first hand issue. Not just those big sites in city. In suburbs. They think they are above rules. Go off site & into coffee / food shops and many still dont comply.

Yeah, I don't get the religious exemption at all, have some knowledge of various religions but brought up an atheist so no direct experience.

I see a few house renos around here and not a mask in sight

Confusing post. I was solely talking about compliance regarding mask wearing outdoors and acknowledged that the indoor lunch room environment is an actual problem. I suggest you read things properly before criticising people and and calling their posts out as ‘irrelevant’.

If you’re too wound up take a break from the internet for a while and come back later.

This sounds like Jehovah's witness *smile*. In that case why should there be exemptions.

J. Lennon

i thought up some new slogans for the cfmeu too

'solidarity sometimes, solidarity sometimes, solidarity sometimes, the union makes us ...... what did it say on facebook again?'

and

'what do we want? Horse wormer! When do we want it? After he takes it!'

and

'the people, united, is a conspiracy by big pharma pedophiles with tunnels full of kids'

The JW reasoning if of course absolute rubbish but rigidly believed and so no point whatsoever in discussion.
But for those with any reasoning...from the moment we are born, probably before actually, our blood and related components like immune material, is changed every single day in multiple ways by what we eat, drink, breath, smoke, kiss, touch etc etc.
Our "God given blood" is not the same from the first breath .
Every virus contacted alters the immune make up , including blood components.
Our blood group itself does not change, including after a transfusion, so the concern is incomprehensible.

If you are vaccinated you will make anti bodies ,if you are infected you will make antibodies. NO DIFFERENCE.
Just more garbage excuses by pathetic humans self interested and resistant to common humanity.

It is no wonder that from the fall of the progressive Roman Empire till the Renaissance that the human race was mired in idiocy , despair and squalor....just 1500 years or so.

The current protesters are selfish, ignorant and uncaring persons who like the religious zealots , belong in the dark ages.

This is just so sad. Many will have their story:

My friend was on the Westgate today, returning from visiting her dying mother. Had possibly just seen her mum for the last time. She was stuck on the bridge because of protesters. A woman alone. Petrified Especially when she saw them drag a man out of his car.

I'm not a unionist; never have been never will be. They have their place (as long as they don't abuse their power) and are important for worker protection but personally not something I've ever been involved in.

But this posted by David above is spot on and really what unions should be all about. They fact that these disgraceful protesters completely ignore this creed is an irony that none of them are likely to be intelligent enough to comprehend.

1. This. Unions need to make a very strong statement reiterating what solidarity means

2. dont shoot the messengers. This is Howards Australia. The little *smile* would be drinking champagne.

How did we get here? This is a very sad state of affairs in Victoria. I have always loved this state and city but right now I don't feel that way. I feel a bit ashamed. The actions of these morons are a stain on this once great city and state that may never be removed. I don't think I have ever seen such disgraceful behaviour. Intimidation by a mob of cowards. Jumping on the cars of innocent people stuck in the traffic jam they caused. Frightening the hell out of children. Spitting in the face of a woman sitting in her car. Dragging a man out of his car.

Yeah real courageous behaviour from a mob that won't take a little needle in their arms. It is their right to refuse vaccination. It is not their right to act like petulant children and commit acts extreme violence and thuggery. What a disgrace they are.
