Coronavirus

This article in The age reinforces the point that the only way stop it is to lockdown and severely limit movement so contact tracers can catch up. Get too many cases and they just cannot cope, which is what happened in Victoria when the NSW system was held up as gold standard.

Hopefully all known cases and most have been in quarantine for their infectious period.
They are all linked to known cases but not reported how many were in isolation or in the community. Reckon we’ve got a long way to go given the new exposure sites popping up every hour. Very little chance of lockdown ending as planned.

NSW will be locked in for weeks i suspect.
Vic - a likely extension, who know s,a few days, a week.

Agree on NSW, watching their press conference again. Gee they make it so confusing. They'd be better off keeping to the KISS principle.

I think we might get an extension of several days, haven't seen our press conference yet but eagerly waiting for how many were in full isolation and what the average days were in the community of the others. Yesterday wasn't bad bearing in mind we only went into lockdown on Friday, but hoping for better.

It's this "personal responsibility" rubbish. Until they understand that personal responsibility with this variant means *smile* all unless 100% of people comply this thing will not go away in NSW. All they are doing in reality is prolonging what they have in place

Why is appealing for people to show personal responsibility rubbish? What that means to me is don't put yourself in positions where you are at risk? Which then puts your family at risk. Don't go indoors anywhere unless its your own house or unless you really have to. eg food/medicine. Why is that rubbish?

Even when we have rules do 100% of the people comply? eg the couple that left Vic and took virus to Qld, the driver not wearing a mask in Syd, the removalists not complying with all the conditions of their permit, the families returning from NSW and not quarantining correctly. People not using the QR code system. What do we do with those people? Punish them?

Ultimately our federal government has failed miserably with zero leadership and allowed the different approaches and confusion and outbreaks that have followed. 95% is on Scomo.

Their real problem seems to be that they waited too long to take action, and then when they finally did, it wasn’t strict enough.

There are how many thousand kids, and their families in Vic in isolation at present because they put themselves at risk by going to school. Should they have shown more personal responsibility?

There are medical staff in isolation in Mildura because they treated someone who walked into the hospital. Should they have stayed outside?

I agree. Its quite easy to go after people with "personal responsibility" but we don't know if the people that have tested positive and were in the community, whether they even knew they were at risk. In the community could mean that all they've done is go to Coles etc, not necessarily that they are breaking rules.

The problem they've got is they didn't go hard enough or early enough, as Glady didn't want to, as it would essentially mean she was wrong to criticise the VIC lockdowns.

They have too many cases for their contact tracers, they can't get ahead of the game like we seem to have in VIC, they are still getting mystery cases and cases in the community as they can't get ahead of it, by pushing primary contacts into isolation and are getting to them only once they turn positive. Its why they've now asked for help from other states for contact tracing, but the question with that remains and again its, why have they waited for so long to ask for help??

Yeh, you're right. What am I thinking. I'll await further instruction.

So with this fifth lockdown for us victorians, this will probably be the last straw for many businesses and they will shut up shop for good. Those that are fortunate enough to keep trading afterwards have probably lost thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars. Their employees will have lost their jobs. They could possibly lose their homes by not being able to keep up mortgage payments. A lot of victorians mental health will have been adversely affected. Kids having their education disrupted, some maybe irreparably over the past 18 months. Stress levels with parents will have gone through the roof trying to juggle work and home/ remote schooling. The vast majority of us have done the right thing and are suffering through the actions of a tiny minority.
Then I read in the paper today that the three selfish arrogant *smile* from Sydney that deliberately breached the conditions of their entry permits , knew that they were doing the wrong thing, spreading their infection throughout the state, are “ unlikely to be charged by authorities “
what the *smile*!!!!!!

The sad thing is you and Brodders highlight what a lazy, boneheaded society we have become. Don't you think there is something wrong with this sentence?

but we don't know if the people that have tested positive and were in the community, whether they even knew they were at risk.

Hopefully Georgia can update us with the amount of spreading there has been from people being outdoors at the beach? Or in a park? Perhaps you could point out how many cases of transmission have occurred in these environments?
