Coronavirus

Well, Berko has stood almost alone in the way she’s handled outbreaks. To date, she’s been successful.

The eyes of the nation are on her now, so let’s hope she is again. Otherwise the ramifications could be immense.
Today was the first day I've actually seen her look & talk really seriously. There was actually a bit of fear behind the eyes.

That said you can still go to the shops.

That was crushing when they did that. I tried cooking my own but something about those old Rotary guys….they just know something we don’t.

No idea whether Jacinta is copping flak or not.
There are lots of reasons why our rate is poor but the big issue to me is that despite all of them there is still nowhere near the urgency from our government that I would like to see and way too many excuses.
I work in and around the sector and the supply problems have been chronic, the transparency almost non-existent and the communication sadly lacking.
I despair sometimes at our bureaucracies, both Federal and state .
Yeh, failure of leadership of the feds in managing covid (despite the countries comparatively low numbers) in all facets is damning. As a generally centre-right leaning person its inarguable he's been a disaster. From quarantine to vaccine he's done nothing and deserves every bit of criticism. I can't believe there isn't talk about replacing him. He's the head coach but shown nothing. Worst ever. But look at the talent in that party?
One thing this pandemic has shown is we can't rely on people to do the right thing. Unfortunately we keep dumbing down society. Everyone needs to be told what to do in every situation, not many appear to want to accept responsibility for their own behaviour. It's not that hard is it?

They’re good those blokes. Real good.

yeah lions and rotarians have a lot of barbecuing capital.

their butcher will usually be a card carrying member and he dont need to be instructed to toss a few hearts in the mincer with the extra fat and breadcrumbs and dont shirk on the salt..

they really know sausages

50 new cases in NSW. 26 in the community whilst infectious, over half. Is it actually a lockdown up there? They’re in a bit of strife I think. They need to lockdown a lot harder; probably for a month.

Won’t see the effect of the increased lockdown rules for a while. There is going to be a double lag. Have virus > feel fine > lockdown not in place > infect others > feel bad (now lockdown in place) > get tested (maybe) > get result. Then those others you infected are in lockdown and should slow the spread but you won’t get those results for another 5-6 days.

The issue is that period where you don’t know you have it until you isolate.

Apparently nobody who's had two doses of the elusive vaccine are in hospital.

I honestly hope NSW gets on top of this & take every measure required to do so.
The State vs State thing gives me the *smile*. These people are Australians who are getting very sick in a global pandemic.
If the powers that be don't get on top of it fast we're going to see the pain of death & suffering we've seen in other countries & nobody wants that.

I went through the Melbourne lockdowns, and am now stuck on the Central Coast during "Sydney's", and I can tell you that the "vibe of it all" up here is 10000000% different to that of Melbourne!

In Melb I lived in the inner SE and when heading to the shops you would only see 4 people in an 8 minute walk. Up here there are people everywhere! While some shops have shut, it seems to be a voluntary thing, as even those cheap $2 shops are open, shoe shops are open, bubble tea and sushi places are open, and don't even get me started on Kmart, Ikea, Bunnings et.al. being open for "business as usual".

At the shops most ppl are wearing masks, especially the oldies, but too many aren't (where I live has a high % of ferals though, so may not be indicative of the rest of the state), and lots just don't seem to care or think it is a problem up here... and then you get an international rugby match about to be played up the road in Newy. Mixed messaging much???

I won't even go into the racism that is behind sending the cops into SW Sydney, while ppl in Bondi etc are packing in the parks, beach walks and cafes!

Unfortunately NSW people are ignoring the lockdown, most of them.

its a very poor excuse of a lockdown from what i see.

fake lockdown.

will be locked in for weeks.

How many fully vaccinated have flouted the lockdown and unknowingly transmitted the virus?

40% of hospitalised under 55 - that is an inordinate number indicative of a different dynamic.
The first sentence will be an ongoing issue no doubt as people look to get their freedoms back after being vaccinated. What’s becoming apparent though quickly is that this is no longer an old person’s disease. The Feds need to get this rollout done yesterday.
