Coronavirus

We're pretty obviously going the distance in lockdown, with potential for more.

Can't be too hard to identify how many people have flown into Melbourne with the delta recently. Unless someone has slipped past quarantine?

Penny finally dropping in Canberra it seems

Pathetic that it has taken yet another lockdown with all the damage it has caused to finally get a commitment on this.

I still have little faith in SloMo to get it done, but we can hope.

The chance of early opening is gone by the looks.
They seem very worried about this new variant.
It’s strange that it apparently doesn’t match any recorded cases here. In rare instances they allow people to skip hotel quarantine. The question needs to be asked.

Also need to consider the possibility of terrorism.

Has to be contact with a returned India traveler either just out of quarantine or who avoided it...surely this can be traced, unless being kept secret.
Only other possibility is contact with a traveler from elsewhere who likewise picked it up from an Indian contact, perhaps whilst in quarantine.

So, this Delta variant... Did it originate in Victoria and was taken to NSW? Or was it caught in NSW and brought back to Victoria?

I can't help but think it's the latter. NSW authorities have had issues locating the original source of an outbreak more than once.

One thing is for sure, it's thrown a spanner in the works. Lockdown won't end early now. In fact, it must increase the odds of an extension.

Good to read that we are getting in experts in logistics by an army leader taking over. I feel that this is an acknowledgment that the existing Federal Health heads haven’t been up to what is required.

I see you've re-opened Tom Clancy's Executive Orders in your spare time...
Not sure how you'd transport it and, let's say, inject it into the air conditioning at a primary school. But I find it hard to believe that it's been bubbling along undetected in general circulation and with nobody getting enough symptoms to be tested - this being the strain that brought India to its knees.

That is the whole point in the end, until the contact tracing can identify the source it is a big risk. I note there has been genomic testing on this cluster and I know that Victorian contact tracers are working with NSW.

I am very concerned at the lack of support for our population this time around without job keeper. I support Foodbank and would encourage everyone to do so if they are able, if you just give $50-100 it will go a long way. The increase in activity that foodbank has had to cope with since the start of the pandemic is astronomical but it has ramped up big time in the last 10-12 days. As usual it is the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society who bear the brunt of these things.

Whilst out federal government protects it's precious budget position so many in our society are doing it really hard, many of them through no fault of their own.

So there's the likely answer on today's communication.
20% of positive cases in quarantine can't be genomically identified for various reasons.
So the positive people in the community must have had contact with a case from quarantine who was still infectious once home and had this variant without the lab being able to identify the genome.

$50,000 Soft Cap fine to Adelaide for incorrect use of masks on a commercial flight. Hope RFC and it's players are watching we could ill afford any more soft cap breaches.

Incorrect mask wearing is a reflection of society though quite a number of people that just wear it over their mouth and not their nose, see a lot with it under their chin as well, wouldn't surprise me if a number carry around an empty Polystyrene coffee cup as excuse for non compliance.

I can’t believe how slow and just plain dumb the feds have been - the reason the vaccine rollout in the UK went so well was they put military and logistics experts in charge of the rollout and had max vaccine clinics everywhere- not trying to move small numbers of doses to large number of GP clinics.

Get the politics out of our rollout and put experts in charge and we will do OK. The trouble is Morrison wanted to get all the glory from the our rollout- has used it for his political grand statements - we all knew back in February the reasons why it worked so well in the UK but Morrison was stubborn in listening to others.

No point putting the Army in charge of a vaccine rollout when you know there isn't enough vaccine around to keep them busy.

When I saw the clickbait headline on the afl website entitled something like Adelaide in disturbing mask wearing scandal, I was picturing Adelaide players in gimp masks. Apparently not haha.
