Coronavirus

Richard Colbeck sounds like he should be the first to go.

1 -
"Based on the data that I have here, that's 38,708 have received the first dose, and 31,610 have received their second dose," he told the committee.

"I don't have the state breakdown."

Labor Senator Katy Gallagher asked whether those vaccinations were as a result of "left over" vaccine doses sent to facilities for residents being used on staff members.

"That's correct," Senator Colbeck replied.

Ok so the vaccinations that have been done of aged care workers was not planned and occurred essentially through fluke because of left over vaccines.

2 - Senator Colbeck disagreed that the government should have put reporting mechanisms in place earlier.

He also defended the vaccine rollout to staff, saying the government was encouraging providers to organise "in reach" programs to speed up and oversee the vaccination of their staff.

Aged care residents and workers were identified by health experts as the priority group, along with frontline workers, for vaccination because of the vulnerability of residents.

Whattttt????? So they are happy with their vaccine rollout to aged care staff that were prioritised as frontline workers, but also acknowledges that we are only at the current level of vaccination of aged care workers due to

Heard today, not sure if true, on another note, government is looking at applying (or modifying) the law regarding treason to give them the ability to charge protestors.

Basically any person, protesting against the decisions, or anything relating to the government will fall under treason laws ! They can arrest a protestor and lock them up immediately.

If true, in reality, democracy will start going out the window. Its not just about the current anti-lockdown protestor, it could then be used against anyone for any type of protest against the government. No freedom of speech. Does anyone know or heard any of this?

sounds like alt-right bullsh1t to me. For a start, VicGov would not have the power to do this. ScoVid's an ass but he wouldn't run with this either.

I figure they don't have the breakdown of the stats on vaccinations in aged care because they don't want the data to exist. Means less scrutiny.

Al, haven't seen that about treason, but I wonder if it would fall foul of the implied right to free speech the high court found in the constitution some years ago now. For all I reckon the anti-vaxxers are morons, they have a right to be morons. If they are booked for not following public health laws when there is a pandemic raging that is one thing, to book them for treason for speaking their minds, bloody ridiculous. The main worry here would be the government sneaking this in under the cover of wall to wall COVID coverage.

DS

UpsetAnt, this would have to be the Feds as treason would not be under a State jurisdiction I would have thought. Could well be alt-right BS but I trust the Feds not at all.

Precisely. Don't keep count when you know the count will be bad.

So 100% of Vic public aged care workers were vaccinated in March? Were they ? I know Twiiter is the Source of all the truth these days but there are still other journalists. who is Anna Sublet by the way?

but here is the first para of the lead article Page 1 of The Age today.
Public Sector aged care workers in Victoria who have not been vaccinated will be stood down from front line duties..... attributed to the Vic Dept of Health Secretary.

Strange thing to say when no one needs to be stood down.

Article continues on Page 4 here Professor Walace says over 90% of public sector health and aged care workers have been and then says "about 90%" in aged care.

Of course it's higher than the unknown private sector coverage but not 100% on which you are lauding the Acting Premier and his team.

PS I note that in Victoria's Big Build Budget they aren't expanding their involvement in aged care Despite their impeccable track record in delivering this service to Victorians.

Just heard Foley saying they are fast tracking the remaining aged care workers so that will take the vaccination rate to 110 % according to Sublet.

Good initiative from VicGov here

VIP vaccine access for aged care, disability workers

Chip Le Grand

By Chip Le Grand

June 1, 2021 — 12.14pm

All aged care and disability workers can jump the queue at mass vaccination centres from Wednesday, with the Victorian government finalising a “fast track” scheme to speed the rollout of COVID-19 jabs.
The Victorian government has written to private aged and disability care providers informing them that from June 2, any employees who declare themselves to work in these critically exposed sectors will be able to quickly access a vaccine at state-run centres.

Aged Care and Disability Minister Luke Donnellan said the scheme was about “stimulating” demand and speeding up the process of aged care and disability workers getting vaccinated.
“We have concerns there isn’t enough coverage, and that is why we are stepping in,” Mr Donnellan said on Tuesday.

“It has been available, but this is very much a call to arms of those workers on the frontline to come out and we will give you a priority lane so it makes it quicker and easier to get through it in a speedier time.”

The new scheme, developed in response to concerns that low vaccination rates among private sector aged care workers had allowed Victoria’s latest outbreak to infect staff at two nursing homes, is intended to sandbag a gaping hole in the state’s COVID defences.

Aged and disability care express lanes will be opened at 10 vaccination centres across Victoria.
“This is Commonwealth space but they just haven’t delivered,” a Victorian government source who was not permitted to speak publicly said. “We are giving them a fast-track ticket, like a theme park, so they can jump the queue.”

The VIP access follows a national cabinet agreement on April 27 that aged care workers who have not been inoculated through the Commonwealth’s limited “in-reach” program in private nursing homes should be given access to vaccines at state-run clinics.

Despite all aged care staff being eligible to receive a vaccine as 1a category workers, there are concerns that not enough have sought to access a jab.

Federal Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck told a Senate estimates committee on Tuesday morning that, although residents in all private nursing homes in Victoria had been offered a first dose vaccination, the federal government did not know how many aged care staff had been inoculated.

The parliamentary hearing was told that once the government received health advice that aged care residents and staff shouldn’t be vaccinated at the same time, it “pivoted” its rollout towards residents and away from staff.

Two workers at the Arcare residential aged care centre in Maidstone, one of whom also worked at the Blue Cross Western Gardens centre in Sunshine, have tested positive to COVID-19.

Quite the statement. Vic Gov not taking any prisoners. Morrison has been so quiet.

Yep. At least they are doing something instead of pretending it's all fine, it's a low priority, nothing is wrong. We need more actions like this.

No more waiting for "official government instructions" from the ScoMo government, which will likely never arrive.

I'm listening to todays presser on about an hour delay, but the news seems positive. no mystery cases. no further cases in aged care. vaccine blitz for aged care and disability workers. the all-round general mood of the speakers seems to be better than yesterday.

the negative is the way this Indian strain appears to have been transmitted (eg. people brushing past each other in a shop).

#ScottyTheBusDriver just said he relies on Brendan Murphy's "advice" that it's not a race.

So now Scotty is blaming others for what comes out of his own mouth. Nice.
