Coronavirus

Honestly that in itself is absolutely crazy in a pandemic.
Hmm do I gamble on the one we have to wait 3 months for or do I take the one that's a 3 week wait?
Well, AZ works better after the second dose with that level of 3 month break.

However, new studies seem to indicate that getting a Pfizer dose after an AZ first dose, is even better. Even better than 2x Pfizer I believe.

Mixing Pfizer after an AZ seems highly beneficial early doors.

The feds would have removed that regulation under pressure from the industry. The owners cut cists, exploit workers and residents and make a killing.

Add to this the painfully slow vaccine rollout and here we are.

They probably did, but the point is who is then putting private aged care profits, over profits of all other industries put at risk because of this. Sure there was an outbreak, but the quickest place for it to spread and also the most risky area in terms of turning infections into deaths is aged care. Someone needs to be held accountability for this stuff up.

Outbreaks were always likely, they need to be handled tightly and that needs a proactive rather than reactive response. Having to react because you haven't vaccinated people that work in the highest risk industry and then allowing them to move easily work place to workplace is the dumbest thing anyone could have done, particularly after what occurred last year.

Now we face another disaster in aged care thanks to the Federal Government's inept vaccine rollout.

We also face an extended lockdown in Victoria for the same reason with the economic and social cost that entails.

The plans for staff vaccination have shifted repeatedly. Initially they were to be given the jab by in-reach teams separate to those sent in to vaccinate residents.

The in-reach program is run by private contractors, though the federal government has repeatedly refused to give even basic details about how much they are being paid.

When those in-reach teams for aged care staff failed to materialise, workers began using leftover Pfizer vaccinations not used on residents, which then left them in limbo when attempting to get their hands on a second dose.

The government promised to set up pop-up vaccination hubs for aged care workers, which did not eventuate for months and, even now, have been established in only three of a promised 13 locations, all of which are in Sydney.

Now, the government is telling aged care staff to secure their own vaccinations, either from their general practitioner, from a state-run or commonwealth-run vaccination hub, or through the Sydney pop-up hubs. They can also choose to wait for in-reach teams.

If anyone dies in a federally run aged care home because a minister wanted to look after his mates bottom line by changing the rules to let workers work at multiple sites, after what happened last year, that person should be criminally charged

Well if I get the chimp AZ vax and then the Pfizer one, I’m gonna be a big bouffant Chimpa Cotchin with Mandingo physical qualities, surely ?

I’m excited.

Take it for what it’s worth given it’s Jeff Kennett, but he reckoned his parliamentary sources have told him we will be in lockdown for weeks.

Whatever, not liking the way this thing started, and not liking the way it’s going. Almost certain to have lockdown extended.

I tried last week at the exhibition buildings, and this week at Broadie to walk in and get vaccinated. I'm not eligible, and they basically said if you're not eligible, don't bother trying.

Maybe early days there was some flexibility, but doesn’t seem to be there now. Guess I'll have to wait.

It makes me annoyed at all the people who can be vaccinated and aren't getting it. You stupid, lucky, butt heads.

I finally saw an ad today, in the paper, encouraging us all to get the vaccine. Must have missed previous ads because we get the paper every day.

My, what a rubbish ad. Very defensive, too wordy, barely noticeable and generally very forgettable.

FFS someone needs to engage a better ad agency. The ads we see from the UK and US are far better. We have done some great public health campaigns in the past, clearly the talent exists here, time to get a decent campaign going to get everyone vaccinated ASAP.

The most effective ‘nudge’ is typically a call to do what others have already done (social proof). And that’s it. plenty of governments around the world have learnt this but not ours it seems.

9 new cases but that includes the 6 announced yesterday afternoon

I was expecting double figures at least, so this is a bit of a relief.

TODAY.jpg

I read the above image on Twitter last night and it instantly removed my anxiety. exposure sites peaked on May 22 and 23. They have reduced since. And now it’ll be close to zero due to the lockdown.

What I take out of this is that we will reach the peak in the coming days (at the latest) and then numbers should drop. We may even see zero by this time next week (depending on what happens in Aged Care).

But it also means lockdown has to be extended. You’d wanna continue lockdown for 14 days past the exposure site peak of May 22 and 23. This takes us to Sunday June 6. A 14 day lockdown means a reopening on Friday June 11 (in time for the long weekend). that should more than enough to cover us.

Yeah I think it seems likely that there will be a 5-7 day extension. Cases not exploding which is good, but aged care is a worry.
