Coronavirus

There's been no instruction that future lockdowns can be avoided by getting vaccinated.

I will repeat this for as long as necessary for it to sink in.

Lee - to answer your question the way you have framed it is hard because it is like saying “I will only wear a seatbelt if it guarantees me I will never die in a car accident”.

I don’t believe what you are implying helps and believe me, I am a cautious, sceptical and at times cranky old bugger. I have had AstraZeneca vac (today actually) but I did it reluctantly because I believe I should have had a choice in vac like those under 50 and not forced to take one sort because of my age. I did it because I believe if everyone takes a vac, then we have a significantly higher chance of beating this virus and not having to worry ‘as much’ about ‘future‘ lockdowns - never no guarantees, but I am happy to go with the law of probability.

Lee's problem is he's boxed himself into a corner and the "official government instruction" is a last desperate escape strategy.

Nup. I'm waiting for a credible source to tell me I need to get vaccinated because we can't afford another lockdown, we're going to let it roll.

"I got vaccinated, you should be more like me" is a poor argument.

They have indicated it but they aren't going to give you a timeline when the numbers taking vaccines are so haphazard and there is no direction from government as to when they will receive vaccines. There is nothing other than downside to stating a timeframe now particularly as they are not in control of it, the feds are and they remain tightlipped about anything to do with the vaccine. The feds have already missed heaps of deadlines around vaccines so why would the states provide you with a date??

Its the most ludicrous response you have given.

If you watched the pressers you would have seen the indication from Sutton that it would reduce any likelihood of a lockdown BUT we are miles away from that at the moment, and we will be until the feds provide a significant supplier of the Pfizer vaccine.

Here's some more data and research on this Legends.

In the UK, one dose of AZ or Pfizer - not both doses, just one, halves likelihood of transmission. Given the r0 is (growth of infection rate) is around 1.4-2.5 in most countries and lower in Australia, if we get the number below 1 then the virus dies. A rate below 1 means that one infectious person infects less than 1 other person. Below 1, a disease dies out.

Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunisation at PHE, said: "Vaccines are vital in helping us return to a normal way of life. Not only do vaccines reduce the severity of illness and prevent hundreds of deaths every day, we now see they also have an additional impact on reducing the chance of passing Covid-19 on to others."

Again from the UK - with 55 million people vaccinated the UK anticipates lifting most forms of lockdown by June. They do anticipate keeping a range of social restrictions until the end of this year, and of course they won't guarantee no lockdowns. There could be other flare ups, new variants etc so Lee wanting an absolute ironclad guarantee of "no lockdowns" ever again is of course completely fanciful.

Here's the statement from Boris on how vaccination is allowing the country to open up.

“I know there will be many people who will be worried that we are being too ambitious and that it is arrogant to impose any kind of plan upon a virus.” The Prime Minister said, “And I agree that we must always be humble in the face of nature and we must be cautious but I really also believe that the vaccination programme has dramatically changed the odds in our favour and it is on that basis that we can now proceed.

Mass vaccination should be our number one priority.
Great post Ant. Get vaccinated people.

You just refuse to understand. I am not going to get injected with a serious drug before I need to. I'm at home and not allowed out except for essentials, same as you. It might seem ludicrous to you but that's how I roll.

Sue me.

Did you get all your childhood vaccines? That stopped polio, rubella, chickenpox, measles etc ? What’s the difference?

and thats fine, but thats not the reasons you've given previously.

You said, if they indicated that lockdowns would no longer be needed then you would get it.

Now you are saying you won't get it until you choose when you need it.

Thats fine, its a personal preference but thats not going to move the state / country towards a post-covid world any quicker.

it appears you think the vaccine that Morrison and his Lib gov are spending millions of $$$ is a waste of money and time?

It's exactly what I've said previously. I'm sure they'll let me know when open slather becomes a viable option.

Did you get a choice between breast- and bottle-feeding?

I remember the rubella campaign and getting the shot at school. It was probably government-mandated.

Yes. Before he said he was waiting fur Pfizer as it was safer. Now it's all bound up with lockdowns and "official government instructions" somehow.

The reality is he lost the argument on the economics and science of vaccinations and is trying to save face.

It ain't working though.
