Coronavirus

My Mum’s in a private care facility - they’ve been brilliant.

As an aside, the UK death toll is around the 64k mark. That includes anyone who has died - for any reason - within 28 days of a positive COVID test.

So if you get hit by a bus 27 days after a positive test, that counts as a COVID death. It makes a mockery of our numbers.

I would say it makes a mockery of their numbers not ours.

So someone has brought it back to Victoria from the northern beaches. No information about who, when, what suburb etc. Pretty much useless information.
It was only a matter of time. The Age reported that there were 3 new case in hotel quarantine; 2 from overseas and one from interstate (assume that is this person). However the ABC and HUN are not actually stating that the person is in hotel quarantine. Maybe they are now but I'm not sure they went straight to hotel quarantine when they came back to Victoria. If they came back before midnight today there is a chance they didn't quarantine which means there is a chance of community transmission.

Details have come out now. Seems like our response is tracking well, no known transmission sites, isolating at home with family.

I think the approach in both Vic and NSW has been very good to these cluster outbreaks. With our caseload low, it enables us to go on the blitz approach when we get these clusters. 56k tests in 2 days in NSW in response to the outbreak is a big blitz on those areas, and the positive test rate is still low.

Hopefully this remains under control with this strategy. It remains to be seen whether it will, the next week is critical but appears as if this strategy is the right one now we have our cases under control throughout Australia.

The cluster outbreaks though do keep it clear in everyones minds how fragile the current position is.

So it appears the initial reporting that the interstate case was in hotel quarantine is incorrect. Hopefully the family is doing the right thing and isolating until negative results after 14 days. Also hope that the authorities are making sure that they do isolate and not duck out of the house for this or that reason.

Too much at stake after the sacrifices made to get us to where we are now.

maybe if they hadn't had Covid, they would have jumped out of the way?

my father-in-law fell over and hit his head on the gutter and died outside the newsagent after checking his unsuccessful tattslotto numbers,

and we were pretty rattled and confused when we picked up the death certificate and it read

'alcoholism' beside COD. Who can be *smile* appealing a death certificate?

I dunno how much latitude a certifying doctor has,

but on that basis, Im pretty sure you could write 'Birth' as a Cause of Death, and not be incorrect?

truth is way stranger than fiction.

How many organisations in any field could successfully completely replace its work force overnight?
In this case who and where are experienced aged staff sitting around waiting for a pandemic for a call up?
Once the staff were ordered out a disaster became a catastrophe.

Probably time for aged care to become part of state health systems which we all trust. And nationalised ... The billions it would cost would be accepted by the voting public but only the Greens would have the courage.
You had me until you mentioned the "Greens" and courage in the same sentence.

yeah. masks are overrated :peepwall :ban

If used incorrectly they probably are.

NSW appears again to have managed a serious outbreak well. Great info on locations where infected people had been - buses, trains, cafes, hotels, hairdessers etc etc. Comprehensive and moreover fast.

Perhaps the people of Sydney are more compliant in obeying the directives rather than the compulsory restrictions/masks imposed down here?

I'd hope they are sharing their tracing methods with the other states.

it would appear so???? I dunno.

A Sydney to Melbourne comparison would need to be controlled for socio-economics I reckon?.

Avalon is a very different place to Flemington Towers or Sunshine meatworx.

Brad hazard reckons there were an inordinate amount of Donald Ducks and Mickey Mouses signed into the Avalon RSL. Maybe the contact tracers just hit Disneyland and nailed it?

I dont understand anything except footy anymore.

You are clearly some sort of Jimmy the Greek wagering guru when it comes to the tigers.

ive never heard of this Grecian James fellow,

but I do find myself in a Richmond punting Midas/Guru type situation

that not even a global pandemic can halt.
