Coronavirus

Yeah, it's already been stated many times that the hotel/security guard issue is a mess and Dan and the state gov. own that, as sin says contact tracing etc was bad.

What Dan did well was communicate to us and have the balls to impose strict lockdown despite the alt-right nutjobs, whiteanting from Josh F and Scotty, Peta Credlin and the like.
We should learn every time there is a problem. Whilst Dan did introduce strict lockdown as you say I bet he wishes he has done it even a few days or a week earlier and introduced mandatory mask wearing earlier.
That's what worries me about NSW. I get that it's really hard and that it's Christmas but the right decision would have been hard lock down and early. I'm worried that they haven't learned from the mistakes Victoria made. NSW has the advantage of seeing history which Victoria didn't have and I am concerned about that.
I really hope I am wrong

Outcomes ant, outcomes. To get them you need leadership, planning, systems, competence etc.

That's the best thing Dan did - recognise he couldn't trust his own gov't. and systems. He knew his limitations I suppose. Many appear to find that acceptable.

That makes no sense MD. He saw the problem was spinning out of control, he used the government and its systems to implement a lockdown that worked. And worked amazingly well. That's outcomes MD. It took leadership, planning, systems, competence to make that happen and made it work.

The fact that it got out of the quarantine hotels and into the nursing homes is where the state government, and the federal government didn't help.

Plus the police commissioner refused to do it, it looks like the creeping assumption all stemmed from that.
Probably, who really knows.

Dan is talking about it now and is talking about lack of oversight which is probably true. He is also talking about the splitting of DHHS as some sort of panacea but imo they should have waited to do that for a year or so. Right now they have two departments concentrating on administrative splits and all the chaos that brings instead of concentrating on what they should be doing. Right decision, wrong time which was 100% political.

Why was it spinning out of control? Why hasn't it spun out of control in the other states? I mean NSW has had a very similar path to VIC in relation to outbreaks. According to many on this thread there is no way they can control the current one it without a strict lockdown, without compulsory masks, without total restrictions. Its going to be a disaster. Todays numbers would indicate they have a level of competence we didn't have in relation to management of an outbreak. Their ability to manage the Ruby Princess outbreak in a matter of weeks would confirm that. The cross roads cluster would confirm that. NSW have done this before. Or is this where we get back to luck again?

Listened to Dan presser, he spoke well. Acknowledged the failures, apologised for the deaths and said they would learn from the experience and make some massive changes. Good to hear. Lets hope they get it right.

Ms Coate said the decision to use guards wasn't made at a ministerial level, effectively clearing Premier Daniel Andrews, former health minister Jenny Mikakos and ministers Lisa Neville and Martin Pakula.

Again, you totally miss the point. To go from 700 cases per day to zero took planning, discipline, leadership etc etc.

And again on why it spun out of control - yes it did, and Dan has acknowledged that.

Well, you were the guy who recommended Dan leave town because "sensible people were really angry" and his physical well-being was at risk. Turns out you were talking about yourself. Trump-esque projection.
Saying I'd like to whizz one past his ear, or I'd like to remove his glasses and poke him in the eyes and leave him squinting like his Chinese masters, doesn't indicate an intent to do it.

Whatever happened to your crazy theories that Dan hooked up a mate to do the private security on the hotels? It was going to totally destroy Dan forever as I recall.

Oh yeah, it was crazy BS and disappeared without trace.
It's hinted at in the inquiry report. Who hired Unified when they weren't even on the list of preferred government suppliers? Dan ain't telling. Clearly a Royal Commission is required to obtain answers to simple questions.

It's there if you look.

Yes, you see a lot of things that other people are unable to.

What did it take to get to 700 cases?

I'm not hearing that MD. I am hearing concern, which I have as well, but I haven't heard the terms " no way and it's going to be a disaster" , at least not from me
If NSW gets this under control it reinforces that the true issue is contact tracing and follow up and if it happens then that is fantastic. Of course Victoria did the same thing with the Chadstone cluster as well.
