Coronavirus

The advice is pretty clear that the only way we know of to stop the disease, without a vaccine being anywhere close, is separation. It's going to be a big problem for those who aren't able to work from home.

If industries are shut down & cash flow dries up it's going to be a problem for everyone.
Have said all along that getting sick is only part of the problem here. The effect on society as we know it will be profound in the short term.

Time to act is now. Public areas should be disinfected nightly - train stations, food courts, building entrances, elevators etc. Everything that is touched by a human hand. No point scrambling around once people start dying and the virus has already spread.

Taken me 2 weeks to find any hand sanitiser, walked into Bunnings to buy a light bulb, and they were just opening a box off 500ml bottles to put on display at front of house so grabbed a couple, (i thought it was christmas) , one woman was filling up a trolly and stuff everyone else
Hope she got to the checkout and was told there was a limit per person.

There was a good article in yesterday's paper by the HS's health reporter, who specialises in policy. He clearly had the inside running and said the government is waiting for domestic transmissions to exceed cases flying in from overseas before hitting the button. The implication was that they need to allow people to get sick first because the public won't tolerate strict measures otherwise, and there'd be a risk of anarchy.

Basically, there won't be much happening in the way of government action until practically everyone understands this is serious sh!t.

Do you need a hand to change the light globe..............does1 bottle of sanitiser for my services sound like a fair deal.

Disappointing if true. Disinfecting public areas after hours isn't a strict measure anyway.

Yes and no. They need to have the public on side to deal with this. I think they're playing it as smart as they can by trying to manage it so infrastructure can cope. We're going to get hit at some point and there's nothing they can do to prevent it.

USA over a thousand cases now. Won't be long.

Dr Brendan Murphy today looking to add some much needed calm to proceedings today.

Three F1 team personnel have been tested for coronavirus in Melbourne
At least three Formula 1 team personnel have been taken in to self isolation at the Australian Grand Prix while tests are conducted to see if they have coronavirus.

One member of the McLaren team, plus two personnel from Haas, have been evaluated at the Albert Park track's bespoke isolation unit and swab tests have been completed.

With the results of those tests likely to take several hours, both teams have confirmed that their staff have returned to their hotels and been put in to a self isolation condition until it is known if they have caught the virus.

FWIW, I am choosing to not really worry at all about this virus.

It could kill me. but I wont have wasted the last months of my life worrying about it.

it could kill my folks. but I wont have wasted any time worrying about it killing them

sure ill wash my hands often (I always do that in regular flu season and when in the city) and I'll stay home if I start sweating and spluttering.

Its a similar cognitive approach I took to contemplating Richmond through the summer of 2016/17.

and that worked out pretty good.

We do have a historically stupid government.

Morriscum simultaneously whingeing that no one could have predicted this while boasting that he predicted it in 2016. Using his religious nutbag language 'many-headed hydra'. What a *smile* he is.

Interesting. Disposable gloves haven't been widely recommended, but I got some in case ATM's and petrol pumps became an issue. Everything else I've bought in preparation would've been used anyway if this thing had fizzled out.

I hate the doors at work - security doors where you need to push a button, then pull the door inwards to get out. The doors have quite a bit of resistance and require a firm grip, making the hip & shoulder method redundant. Hence I've been working from home.
I have never understood why public toilets have doors that you push to go in, then have to grab the handle to pull to exit, right after you've washed your hands (and many others haven't).

Thanks for that info @spook ......

I hope this doesn't become our day to day lives into the future.
Interesting his take on the mask situation and it stopping you from touching your face. Might use a scarf at the footy for that purpose so it looks a little unobtrusive.
Decided to cut back on the fluids too so hopefully I won't need to use their facilities.

It's amazing what you're thinking when you're out and about....Stood on an escalator today and there was no way known I was gonna grab that rail. Used my own bags instead of their basket when shopping at coles.
Short of wiping down every surface, wtf do ya do?

Attended a AFLW game recently, used the urinal and hardly any blokes washed their hands while i was there. Got back to my seat and was disgusted. The place was packed.
Then while at the airport 2 guys left the confines of the dunny and one from the urinal and none of these dirty bastards washed their hands.
Short of making a scene with member in hand again i was just disgusted.
We are doomed if the simple *smile* is not being done as a normal way of life.
Just need to look after your family first cause the other buggers dont care.

Agree 100%
It wouldn't be so bad if toilets had paper towels like they used to, you could grab the handle with the paper towel. Might have to start using the date roll.
