Coronavirus

They are Aged Cares run by the state government:
Thanks ... Great bulk in rural and regional areas.... Now that I think about it I see the places when you drive into country towns. would be heavy govt subsidies to make them viable. Friends mother is opinion one in Gippsland ... Moved her there from city so she could be near his holiday house. But If it is such a good idea for State govt run nursing homes why are they not building enough for us city folk?

Andrews was pretty clear today the problems are in private run aged cares- from what i could gather there are at most minimal cases in state run centres.

(That is not to say all present cases are related to private run aged cares- but the differences might correlate to the way staff and residents are treated in both settings.)

They must be having BLM rallies in those centres the way some here talk.

Sure, have a go at BLM rallies, go ahead.

Been to an indoor shop lately? We know it is far easier to transmit indoors.

Been to a shopping centre lately for anything apart from essentials?

Anyone from Sydney or Brisbane been to a footy game? And the difference is??

Lots of hypocrisy all over the place. An outdoor, masked (remember not compulsory in Sydney) demo is a lot safer than any of the above.

If BLM rallies are not acceptable then how come going to a large shopping centre is fine, going to a rugby or AFL game is fine, etc?

Maybe it is because the issues being raised are inconvenient because if there was even one miniscule slice of consistency amongst those posting here in opposition to the BLM demo, then they would be demanding the closing of shopping centres and no crowds at the footy in NSW and Qld, all I hear is silence.

The federal government is responsible for aged care but they run none of the facilities. They are either private ( or not for profit) or public but run by public hospitals under licence from the commonwealth. The state government also tops up the funding. Many public hospitals In Melbourne run residential aged care but mainly for lower socioeconomic groups who cannot afford anything else.
Over the years there has been a move to privatise more and more because Governments ( and I mean state, commonwealth, Labor and LNP) all know that it’s going to get more and more expensive as the population ages. Public facilities also work under Government medical EBAs which means the privates can work at lower cost by having less highly paid staff.
In a pandemic I would far rather be in a Government aged care facility than a private one.

Yep privatisation is a scourge and both parties are just as guilty.

But don't be fooled into believing it is about saving money. The amount of money thrown at privatised utilities, public transport, aged care etc is obscene.

Privatisation is about 2 things: 1) lining your mates' pockets, and 2) being able to shift blame to the private operator when the service is crap.

Anyone who protests today in Sydney is incredibly selfish.
Once again this virus is not political & does not care what people are gathering for.
Now is not the time in the midst of a pandemic.
I hope anyone who is stupid enough to fly in the face of public health warnings & the Supreme Court not to do so, faces the full extent of the law.
Stay home ffs.

i imagine many will protest, not because they are selfish, but because the police commissioner made false statements, saying the Melbourne outbreak had been linked to protests here, when that is a blatant lie, and because they see people going to football, rugby, pubs, pokies venues etc.
They, rightly, think the issue of black deaths in custody is more important than sport, drinking or gambling.

You may disagree, but it is not right to call them selfish.

No it's a perfect description of their actions. Selfish and incredibly so due to the fact that the few actual Aboriginals who take part may well take the virus home to people who are extremely vulnerable.
