Connors

If we were to bring Connors in, I'd look to sub him off rather than on. In other words, start him on the ground in either King or Nahas's position; if he is having little impact, or not providing enough forward pressure, send him for an early shower.
Agree with starting him as sub. His fitness issues would be as big a deal then.

3....And from memory 2 of them were cheapies over the back. Has done nothing since and this game still gets talked about. Other stars from the Richmond side that day...Shultz, Mcmahon, Tambling

Round 15 2010 against Fremantle, 35 possessions, a goal and 3 Brownlow votes. Didn't think he had a bad year in 2010 and he is certainly very capable. I also have always seen him as a very dangerous forward and would love to see him given a chance playing that role. Also was a very good tackler in 2010 so I'm not too concerned with his ability to provide at least as much defensive pressure as King has showed this year.

The Coburg Report has backed up what I said above, he needs a few more weeks to get his body 100% and then he will be pressing for selection.

Dean Polo once got 3 brownlow votes too

Connors has averaged 1.8 tackles per game in his career.

Here are some of our other players stats:

Martin 3.3
Grigg 2.3
Maric 2.4
Vickery 2
Edwards 2.6
King 2.1
Jackson 3.7
Gus 3.5
Browne 1.6

make of that what you will

He played 14 games in 2010 and averaged nearly 24 possessions a game.
To me it is pointless arguing with people about whether Connors has talent or not. I trust my eyes and there is no doubt in my mind that he has a lot of talent but there will be some who disagree I guess. The question for me is not about talent it is about fitness, commitment, workrate and being a team player.

He is on the list and doing well at Coburg so play him and we will see.

Polo's not a bad player, his disposal let's him down, that was his major weaknesss imo. I think Connors has much more upside than a Polo imo of course.

No doubt historically that's been one of Connors weak points but I thought in 2010 he really tried to pick up that part of his game, he did average 2.4 tackles in 2010. Stick that against King's average this year of 1.2 then you really have nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain. Again not saying Connors is our answer to a Lenny Hayes as a tackling machine.

Agree totally. Reward performance.

Personally, I am amazed Connors didnt get delisted last year. He is as soft as they come on field and doesnt go when its his turn. His disposal is very ordinary as backed up by statistics and off field he comes across as incredibly lazy and arrogant.

I think he has had his chances and needs to go. I would much rather get games into Arnot, Webberly, Helbig, O'Hanlon (insert other untried youngster here) then continue to gift chances to somebody who has wasted them time and again and proven he is not up to AFL level

Well he is on the list so has been given another chance and if he performs deserves an opportunity. That's the beauty in life, sometimes you might regret your past but getthe opportunity to make up for it. Arnot will get his chance. Webberley I don't really understand why he hasn't been given a go yet. Helbig has been injured I thought and O'Hanlon still a bit raw I would have thought. Coonors is nearly 24, this is his last chance, so why not see whether he can grasp it or not. Nothing to lose, plenty potentially to gain.

We lose the chance of getting game time into a youngster and seeing whether they might make it long term and the prospects of what we might gain are very minimal given he has proven time and again that he is a journeyman not up to AFL standard

I know where you are coming from, that's always the dilemma but I don't see how giving him a few games right now at the expense of King in the forward line would be too disastrous even if he doesn't make it. People do sometimes mature when given the ultimatum. Hoping we give it a chance. Let's see whether he gets the chance.

So you think it would be a good message to send to the young ones that even if you are the best performed player in the reserves your not going to get a game?

The Gus Bus seems to take it in his stride.

Has he consistently been the best or had one good game?

What message does it tell the youngsters if a player is a party boy off field, doesnt work hard, pulls out of contests on field yet is consistenly rewarded ahead of a kid putting in 110%

So you have watched him at Coburg consistently not putting in 110% have you? One good game? Shows you have no idea.
