Connors

Re: Conners

Just like all Tigers players he going to be a star but by the end of his 3 year Half of you guys will be bagging the *smile* out of him.
Just let the kid play year or 2 before you all tar calling him a star.

Got nothing else to cheer about. Let us enjoy it while we can. It's a bit like the start of the season where we haven't lost a game yet and this is our year.

because his tac cup form was nothing special and he stinked it up during draft camp, had a very good carnival though

:bs Made the TAC cup team of year.

But yes Draft Camp gave him no favours.

But was All-Australian at U/18 Champs.

2/3 aint bad.

It's quite mind boggling why he dropped so far. TAC cup team of the year and U18 AA. What more could he do? Yes he hasn't played an AFL game yet but he just looks like a footballer who will make a presence.

I feel clubs are getting too scientific when it comes to drafting, and are too focussed on X factors and athleticism rather than pure football ability. Dunno.

If a Greg Williams was in the draft nowdays he'd go late also. Scott West too.

you're on fire Harry

Following that logic to the next step, maybe we should prioritise big-arsed slowpokes in the next few drafts?

Early days, but there's alot of Luke Hodge about this kid.
carn't be to much like hodge or he'd have gone higher than #73 in the draft :headscratch

#58 I believe.

Mentioned in a lot of phantom drafts as high as 7-12.

Bargain.

EDIT: grammer
WHY DID HE BLOW OUT TO #58?

DONT GET ME WRONG, IVE NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY. AND I LIKE WHAT IVE READ, BUT HARD TO IMAGION HE'S A STAR IN THE HODGE MOULD.

HOPEFULLY I'LL STAND CORRECTED ;)

He had off-field issues but McRae has been awesome this year as I said. He's right on track.

Being a close type they vary alot where they go. I'd liken him to Dal Santo more but Hodge in the way he doesnt take a backward step, that's for sure.

Matt Burgan knew he'd blow out. In his final phantom draft he had him at 38 but knew he had the capacity to go early, he went the other way, who knows.

BRISBANE LIONS - DANIEL CONNORSBendigo Pioneers, 25 October 1988, 183.7cm, 74.1kg Like O'Keefe, Connors could bob up anywhere from the first to third round in this year's draft. Several clubs have shown interest - including Richmond, Carlton (both believed to be inside the top 20), Hawthorn, Adelaide and St Kilda - while the Lions have also kept an eye on him. He is also seen as a player that could slip down the order and be somewhat of a bargain selection before 40. It would not surprise at all if he went early, yet don't be surprised if he is around the 30 to 40 mark.

That's the only one I cant find but I remember other phantom drafts with him at picks 7 and 10. :spin
THANKS PHX. THESE PHANTOM DRAFTS DONE EVERY YEAR I SPOSE?

Mr F Jackson has an amazing memory.

He saw Connors under performing in the Draft camp beep test, and remembered from several months before that the kid used to take off on the other foot, so was doing it ll wrong.

Thats almost right. It was the 20m sprint. They asked him why he took on the opposite side to which he should have. His answer: That's the way I skateboard". The perception was he was a bit slow.
He was re-tested, this time taking off on the correct leg and the results were much improved.

Re: Conners

Watched Connors second half in the televised game against Preston? I 'm pretty sure thats who the Burgers were playing. The midfield was a bog hole and they came from behind and rolled 'em. Connors was like a human vacuum cleaner off the backline, just rebounding over and over again and releasing teammates up the ground.

Had heard that he was stuffing up off field and was not expected to play seniors this year.
Hope like hell this kid gets his act together because we need players with talent and attitude desperately.
From what I've seen of both Jack and Connors they've both got plenty of the necessary and should develop nicely.
Be nice to have them running out along with the little angry ant Kingy.

Re: Conners

I hope Connors does well, what little I've seen of him I like. I wish we'd had Francis Jackson managing our recruiting years ago. It's sad though that we have to rely on 3 first year players for some attitude.

Amazing the difference in recruiting with Jackson there - real footballers for a change- Leaving Miller in control for 4 years basically meant we stalled or went backwards for 4 years.

I heard Dan's lawns were a bit unkempt too.

I still remember listening to the telecast, and laughed at how quickly Frank spat out Dan's details to draft him. Let's just say, it was that quick, if had been his honeymoon, he wouldn't need to worry bout kids.

Re: Conners

IMHO most definatley, excellent reflex's,strong over the ball, very clean hands an second to none awarness.

Collins will be a very good inside midfielder without doubt
