If this kid can stand up he will be the biggest steal of the 06 draft. Some observers had this kid earmarked to go top 10 .I can see how some alleged outside issues may have seen him slide in the drafting order but was his freefall to 58 justified .Anyhow good luck to the lad on Sat. p.s does he have a nickname

Certainly not, he has all the attributes to be successful, McRae has done as awesome job turning him around off field. Edwards has as well, they're house buddies now. Edwards doesnt have a licence (Or lost it, one of the two!) so Daniel is his driver! :spin

Speaking of steals, Collins at 73 will prove very handy as well.

Last year's draft is shaping up well so far. Credit must go to Francis Jackson.

Indeed.

It is amazing what can be acheived when a recruiter actually watches the football.

Connors, Foley, Deledio, Edwards. Maybe Coughlan (if he can get 100% fit and improve his kicking). Add Cotchin next year. This is where our real improvement begins. We need to keep adding quality inside well rounded kids to this young and developing on-ball brigade each and every year. No outside types.

Agree. Midfield is by far our biggest problem; by a country mile. Carlton most likely getting the number 1 pick might end up be a blessing in that they would probably take Kruezer (seeing as though they will also have pick 3 or 4 which they would then take a midfielder), so we should take Cotchin with our 1st pick. Yes Cotchin was dissappointing in the championships but apparently was playing a little injured (shoulder i think) and by all reports is THE class midfielder of the draft.

GO TIGES!!!

Bring on the Francis jackson era. I think universally on PRE he, Franics has been lauded a unmitigated success and step in the right direction.

Laat years crop, although we are a very average side, looks as good as any group of kids picked in the 2006 draft.

Early days, but there's alot of Luke Hodge about this kid.
carn't be to much like hodge or he'd have gone higher than #73 in the draft :headscratch

#58 I believe.

Mentioned in a lot of phantom drafts as high as 7-12.

Bargain.

EDIT: grammer

WHY DID HE BLOW OUT TO #58?

DONT GET ME WRONG, IVE NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY. AND I LIKE WHAT IVE READ, BUT HARD TO IMAGION HE'S A STAR IN THE HODGE MOULD.

HOPEFULLY I'LL STAND CORRECTED ;)

Re: Conners

because his tac cup form was nothing special and he stinked it up during draft camp, had a very good carnival though

He had off-field issues but McRae has been awesome this year as I said. He's right on track.

Being a close type they vary alot where they go. I'd liken him to Dal Santo more but Hodge in the way he doesnt take a backward step, that's for sure.

Matt Burgan knew he'd blow out. In his final phantom draft he had him at 38 but knew he had the capacity to go early, he went the other way, who knows.

BRISBANE LIONS - DANIEL CONNORSBendigo Pioneers, 25 October 1988, 183.7cm, 74.1kg Like O'Keefe, Connors could bob up anywhere from the first to third round in this year's draft. Several clubs have shown interest - including Richmond, Carlton (both believed to be inside the top 20), Hawthorn, Adelaide and St Kilda - while the Lions have also kept an eye on him. He is also seen as a player that could slip down the order and be somewhat of a bargain selection before 40. It would not surprise at all if he went early, yet don't be surprised if he is around the 30 to 40 mark.

That's the only one I cant find but I remember other phantom drafts with him at picks 7 and 10. :spin

the james hird thing is a myth, the guy was going to sydney until he moved out of his house or whatever and he just fell outside the sydney zone, thus essendon got him very late in the actual draft

"nothing special" doesnt mean he is crap

was just very inconsistent compared to his solid games at the champs

It's quite mind boggling why he dropped so far. TAC cup team of the year and U18 AA. What more could he do? Yes he hasn't played an AFL game yet but he just looks like a footballer who will make a presence.

I feel clubs are getting too scientific when it comes to drafting, and are too focussed on X factors and athleticism rather than pure football ability. Dunno.

If a Greg Williams was in the draft nowdays he'd go late also. Scott West too.

Ok, read and taken wrong. :)

Re: Conners

All I know from watching the sport clips, is his uncanny way he handballs out of trouble and hits targets, his awareness around him and the grit he has. That's all.
