Changes vs St. Kilda

Thinking about the Mansell and Pickett replacements I wouldn’t mind if we went with Biggie and Steely Green.

Yep. Looks like Mozza will be in as tackling forward for Mansell, no matter how bad he performed in the 2nds game.

Banks (to debut) for Pickett I reckon.
If we bring him in it might be to bang a few from 50 like Short did last week, TF. He can catch and he can kick.

Why does Banks play?
He can get a kick, mad_tiggy911. That's a real achievement this week. Classy type but plays light.

King will get Balta? Owens is super mobile, pretty much a small when it's on the deck but can take a catch and hit it hard. Can't see Young getting anywhere near him. Broad or Grimes. Caminiti gets over ground. He bounds all over the joint. Broad or Grimes.

Do we persevere with Young? Young structures us up and Vlastuin gets to play small. Less standing in front of the pack, more running. That's good. And it's possible we'll need to stay tall again this week. Less bungling from Young would be handy and not out of the question. The alternative is probably Ralphsmith who might do well on the 'Pou. Even though Young is letting the ball out the back we are better shaped with him in.

MoJu has to come in. He doesn't look ready but he has to at least sub. We're out of running players. Probably has to play.

Cumberland after the bye, apparently.

We are so short on playing stocks we have to bring Miller in to play #3 forward. If not we push Martin or Cotchin forward again. Or experiment with a backman up forward? FMD. Bradtke was poor. Bauer worse. Coulthard quiet. Trezise less so. Biggie anonymous.

Banks? Maybe. HBF or sub. But he is not a runner. And can be too light in defence. Sonsie? I dunno. We're looking for a running sub if Hugo gets a gig. Might have to be Sonsie.

Out: Marlion, Mansell, Young
In: MRJ, Ralphsmith, Anybody but Miller

Well said and agree with your ins and outs. Well, on Miller im not fussed whether he comes in or not. Leave that to the match committee.

Wouldnt mind Biggy. Bad time for Cumberland to get injured.

Just on Young, to slow off the mark and once the ball hits the ground he doesn't have that quick acceleration. Likely Hugo will play as the 7th back, giving us more run or they could swing him forward. Has played there before and kicked goals. Rioli Junior will come in i reckon, dusted off the cobwebs last week in the ressies.

I am fussed on Minson, Astute - Arrgghh! Cumberland very stiff. I'm not a Biggie fan, AT, and I've stuck up for Miller and Mabior. But maybe we're that desperate.

Young. He's not bad when he knows what he's doing. Weak in front. So he has to play on the shoulder and can't jump. I've seen him do really good things at ground level. Even pounce on loose. Smart ball use too. But he gets lost and then he's out of position, facing the wrong way, slippin and slidin, can't get there and the trainwreck goes on. Hard to watch. He can corral when he is composed. (FMD, this is playing the kids insofar as we have any atm.)

On his lack of pace, he couldn't keep up in that footrace to the goal square last week. Ouch. If we can make a player of him our academy is the greatest in history.

The game has ended up being overshadowed a bit by all that's been going on. It's a real shame that we can't spend the whole week focusing on Skip's 300th.

In saying that, there's obviously a couple of forced changes to be made.

I think MRJ has to come in for Mansell, we've simply got no one left to turn to and he can at the very least provide some forward pressure.

I thought Ralphsmith was actually very stiff to be dropped and had strung together the best couple of games of his career, so he comes back in for Pickett for mine.

Young probably played his worst game on Saturday, but I'm happy to stick with him. But it probably comes down to a question of structure. If they feel they need another forward who can bring the ball to ground perhaps they go without Young and bring in Nyuon or Miller?

Out: Mansell, Pickett, Young
In: Rioli Jnr, Ralphsmith, Nyuon

Banks to sub.

If Miller does come in, will it be the Miller who played the Weagles and Cats, where he was ok? or the Miller who played the Power, and many other games, where he was not? unfortunately there is more chance of the 2nd i reckon.

While the structure we have had with Pickett up front appears to have worked the last couple of weeks, we probably need to adapt again, rather than trying to replicate that structure, as we dont have another MP.

so maybe:
Out: Pickett, Mansell
In: No idea.
Probably MRJr, but only cos he can chase,
maybe Banks, but I dont know where he fits into the 22. he would get some wing time, in place of Graham, but not sure where else he plays, or where KMac or Ross move to.
Could be Sonsie, but he would have to play as a near permanent half forward which probably doesnt suit.
Green- would be a bit of an act of desperation.
Biggie- maybe it is time he is given a chance.

Way I see it is they bring in Ralphsmith and Banks to replace Picket and Mansell in the selected team.
To replace Hugo as sub I would go with Biggy over Sonsie.
Biggy is a classic sub. Can play ruck, take a mark and kick a goal.
Sonsie really only can play as a small forward or onball. Not a bad thing but IF a ruck or Jack goes down Biggy is the better option.

They are the 2 who are probably the "next in line", but how do we accommodate a wing and a hb to replace to forwards?

and i cant see us using a tall as sub. almost never happens.

Assuming AFL/RFC stick by Marlion he probably still needs a short break.
Justice to prevail in the Mansell case.

In Banks and Miller.
Out McIntosh, Pickett managed, and Ralphsmith sub.

Can't believe you're wanting to drop KMac, he was one our better players last week. Young would be the 1st I'd drop. The only other changes would be Pickett & Mansell if we don't appeal the verdict.

Banks to replace Young, Cumbo if he's fit, to replace Marlion & Sonsie for Nigel if necessary.

I made an adjustment to the suggestion this morning following the Mansell decision. McIntosh would still be my sub however. Would like Banks to have his opportunity with McIntosh to be daisy fresh and ideally come on when needed or in the 3rd qr.

Don’t see how MoJu gets a game when he can’t find the ball in the 2s.

I’d debut Coulthard before gifting MoJu another game to chase defenders.

It'll be a interesting team selection this week. The players that are playing well in the 2's don't really slide into the spots nicely like we would like. Ie. missing 2 forwards and our small and mid size forwards aren't screaming out to be picked.

I do like Banks, and would like to see him in the team but don't see how he fits at this stage, unless potentially Young is out and he's the 7th defender, and we go with a smaller defence. Possible with the Saints 3 good smalls.

I think either Tresize, Green or Coulthard is likely to debut in place of Mansell and Pickett, but who knows, it could be MRJ but I'd prefer him to have a few more games in the 2's. Could we think about swinging Hugo forward. I think he could be a weapon forward, great on the break, speedy, can put pressure on and is a fairly good kick for goal.
