Changes v Saints

we need improvement in the following areas (imho)
- wing. too many one on one contests are being lost
- half forward. opposition are setting up too easily
- pace. we get caught too often

For mine...
Out -- In
Morris - McDonough (tackles, gets possessions, kicks goals)
Gordon - Lloyd (natural forward who can crumb)
Newman - Menadue (pace, pace and good skills. Needs to believe he is there for this)
This is mostly mine too, but I think swapping Gordon for Lloyd is shifting the deckchairs on the Titanic, neither of them are AFL standard. Have to find a spot for Maric and I don't Hampson will be dropped.

I'm going to try a worst case scenario

Out. In
Vickery (suspended) McBean
Edwards :'( injury Mcdonough Menadue or Knights

Note:
Gordon needs to hit his targets.
I hope morris and newman kept their opponents quiet.

Dont think Maric will be recalled?

I doubt Knights will be in the frame for another 2 weeks they will want to get some miles in his legs regardless of how he performs.

No merit rushing him back too early he will be more important come August.

I cant see Newman being dropped regardless of how poor hes been because hes been afforded too many opportunities already a demotion to the seconds realistically will mean the end for him and i cant see the powers that be pulling the trigger on him just yet.

Out: Newman, Gordon, Morris

These 3 are passengers of the highest order. We can not expect to impact in finals with these 3 in the same team let alone the same forward line. Not even close to being up to the standard required.

In: McDonough, Lennon, Knights or Menadue

As much as it should happen I can't see newman being dropped. Dimma will keep gifting him games. Any reason why Lloyd not playing vfl today? Give him another go over Gordon.

Oh god. Listening to Hardwicks presser, he's going to try and fit Hampson and Maric into the side together. All the while lamenting that our kicking inside fifty was sub par. News flash Mr Hardwick : if you prioritise hardness and pressure and running over skills, your skills will look poor.
Similarly, if you don't select any forwards, you're going to have average running patterns leading to forward entries.
Out: Morris, Newman, Gordon, Hampson, Edwards (inj)
In: McBean, McDonough, Lennon, Maric, Knights.

Be surprised Hardwick, see what happens when you select skilled players with forward nous.

Oh god, we must have lost 6 from the last seven games judging by this post.

Were you happy with the way we played last night Antman?
Hardwick wasn't.
I wasn't.

Yes, we won. We beat Calton. Happy that we got for points, but I'm thinking ahead to top four potential , and finals.

If we select a side like we did last night, we won't win a final, and we won't make top four.

Please please please just select some forwards. We only select one specialist forward in jack.

Then we try to make up the rest with ruckman in Griffiths and Vickery, defenders in Morris and Newman, and midfielders in deledio and Martin.

We have one player with goal sense, instinctive leading patterns, and instinctive goal kicking.

Look at McDonough. He is a natural forward.

The 'oh god' comes from the fear that we're going to try using Maric, Hampson, Newman, and Morris as our forwards next week. Tell me that doesn't scare you.

Still the doubting Thomas eh?

I was happy with some aspects - most actually - and less happy with others. Dimma's comments were much the same. Winning ugly is still winning.

I've been looking at McDonough on the box today - done a couple of nice things but clearly overweight. It's a cold wet day at Coburg so not ideal for forwards but there ain't a lot happening down there.

Having said that it's getting harder to select Newman and Morris in the same side. Hampson and Maric together I can forgive if Vickery is out - McBean needs another run and might offer more than Hampson but hard to drop Hampson after that game. Dimma's advisers might convince him otherwise this week, let's wait and see.

We know Dimma won't change a side too much, particularly a winning side, so can't see a whole lot of changes except those forced on us to be honest.

OUT PLEASE- Newman, Morris and Gordon. Stamp there papers.

IN- Lennon, McDonough and Menadue. NO MATT THOMAS, if you have too, play short...

Same as for Conca. Neither are overweight. It's a natural stocky body they carry. The game's in Preston not Coburg. Get your geographics right anty. ;D

Agree with others Newman and Morris never to play again...Gordon not far from gone.

Well we seem to agree on most then. Except that you're an optimist, and I'm somewhere near the other end of the spectrum.

Also, does McDonough's body type matter if he covers the ground as well as he does? He looks a little pudgy (compared to the AFL standard) but it clearly didn't affect his fitness.

My apologies :) I should know that, was born in Preston Hospital.

I'm glad to know you think my physique is the equivalent of a professional AFL footballer, I've been telling people the same for years :hihi

Deluded optimist actually :)

Actually his bodysize doesn't matter, depends how he plays. We know he gets the ball and kicks goals, but in today's highly measured and analysed football I'm wondering whether he's resting too often and not covering the kilometres... this is how the game is these days.

Having said that I'm just speculating.

Poor old PANCH....now it's a....hotel.

I'm probably closer to stocky and overweight than you'd be. Took it off my dad. Believe me... ;D

Out: Edwards (inj), Vickery (suspended because he is Vickery)

In: Maric, Menadue

I realise that people want Morris out on a permanent basis but you don't drop him after he was one of our best on Friday night. It was his job to nullify Carltons only running threat and he gave Yarran an absolute bath so he won't be dropped. Much better as a man on man negating threat against opposing running half backs. I'd have him annoying the hell out of Geary or Savage next week.

Newy won't be dropped because Dimma doesn't like to change a winning team unless he has to.

PANCH yeah... people go there to conceive now I guess.

My dad was a six footer and broad, I'm 5'7" and broad. But I took a lot of weight off this year, cycling to work and eating better. If McDonuts can make it with that physique I'm still a chance to get a gig!
