There isn't any more risk in his shoulder this week than there will be next week or in 5 years time.
He has chronic shoulder instability and although they have surgically stabilised the joint it still has a high likelihood of reoccurrence given his history.
The best way to manage it going forward is with taping support and by limiting the vulnerable movements he makes.
The former is easy but the later will take time, as evidenced by his attempt to spoil on Thursday when he got caught out and didn't extend his arm. Reaching high and back is a massive risk so he did the right thing.
Plenty of players learn to manage chronic shoulders, Wayne Carey played with them for years, but he needs game time to get confidence in adjusting his approach.
If he has to be wary of certain contact he is basically *smile* as his natural game is based around the contest. If he has to modify his approach he won't be getting a game in the seniors much longer.
Carey was never a great overhead mark but could use his body brilliantly to protect the ball drop. His game wasn't based of defensive efforts/tackling etc.
