Changes v Hawks

OUT: Graham, Stack, Rioli
IN: Caddy, Ross, Balta

We are running too many smalls. Need more overhead marking power plus more hard, contested grunt and tackles that stick. All these guys have running power as well. Balta has explosive speed and can play mid/forward or back.

Need something different than what we saw from that poor game against the Mudpies.

Would accept Pickett out instead of Stack, just according to needs. Then Ross goes into midfield rotations, Stack plays HBF. But Marlion probably deserves another chance; he's probably still adjusting to the much greater speed of AFL and an intense pressure game was tough for him, but looks classy when he gets the ball. Ross can play HBF if MP stays in.

Those changes would require changes to our structure & the way we have set things up.

How the *smile* doesn’t Burgoyne get suspended??

Caddy for Stack is the only change I'd make, if Caddy is fit.

I'd go in unchanged, I think continuity is as important as anything at the moment.
That is why we struggled in the 2018 final series.

Players need to be dropped if they are not performing, it sends a message out that laziness or lack of effort is not part of out ethos.

100%.

In 2018 our team was basically the same as 2017. The injuries of 2019 allowed us to see the emergence of Soldo, Pickett, Stack, Baker, Short and Bolton.

Under-performers need to be kept on their toes.

we didnt make a single change in the 2017 final series, and one forced change in the 2019 series?,

So we've played one game off a limited preparation against a premiership contender and drawn. And it was only 3/4 of a normal game.

I fail to see how you can make any sort of reasonable judgement on the performance of anyone in those circumstances.

Stack came back from the break seriously unfit and lo and behold can't perform in a game.

I don’t think our 2018 team changed all that much either.

it comes down to PFs
2017 2018 2019
DID. DIDN’T. DID

yes thats my point. theres twice as much evidence against the change theory as for it.

It’s great for our club to have so many options.

Mcintosh Ross Nankervis caddy

yep. and Sesame Street could play that 'one of these things is not like the other things' segment,

and put those 4 blokes, with a picture of a shrinking violet in a black and yellow jumper,

and it would be really easy for little tiger kids to go

'its the flower, cause the other 4 are all really tough *smile*.''

i think otherwise Big R.
You'd think there's a few others pushing for a place... Balta, Dow, Nank, Kmac, Ross, Caddy (in when fit) , etc ..
In this weird season of unknowns (and knowns) perhaps its an opportunity to experiment a little ?

Reckon Graham is safe. Trying to get him to understand where to go to get some easier ball.

Missed tackles, thats what let him down Thursday. Graham critical to our pressure game at the contest. He stays.

Stack for Caddy. That’s it.

We don't know that for sure, all we know was he was observed struggling in a few running drills. There's all sorts of reasons for that and the fact he was selected in round two would indicate there weren't too many concerns with his condition.

I'm working on the assumption Caddy is not going to be ready to play.

I don't want to experiment, I want to win the flag.

We dont know for sure why but game day evidence supports he's unfit, out of form, or both.

When fit and firing he's great. Will be interesting to see what happens at selection this week.

Our form in 2017 & 19 was white hot. We won games coming into 2018 finals but fell over the line In 3 of our last 4 games.

A 3pt win v Geelong (8th), 8pts v Essendon (11th) and 3pts v Footscray (13th).

It masked the very average form of a few of our players, and we got found out 2 games later.
