Changes v Dees

I will be very disappointed if Banks is out.
Watched the game again..he is composed , strong , has foot skills and a football IQ.
He is our future.
Made no mistakes and plenty of good plays in the last 40 min which is when we won the game.
Needs to stay. Is a perfect wing or half back . Bakes can go forward and Pickett to miss.
Just a thought. ..K Mac is tough and an accurate kick at goal but getting too slow on a wing..could be a useful forward while Lynch is out. ..could negate May or Lever.Coulthard to his wing.

In: pressure from the opening bounce
Out: anyone who is flat and not ready to go

how you determine who is and isn’t is the trick I guess.

Thought we should have moved Young forward against Sicily to at least make a contest.
Worth a try this this week moving him forward. Just need to bring the ball to ground.
It is very difficult for the forwards team to determine the match ups. It is the backs who generally determine the match ups.

Young is a battler and I supect wouldn't get a touch up forward.

48 hours ago I wanted Pickett dropped. Now he stays.

Time for experimenting stops. It’s all chips on the table. Experience now counts as we enter a big game.

Which brings me to Cumberland. He can’t be trusted. Just yet. Yes he kicked 6 goals but a game against Melbourne is at another level. We can’t afford petulant performances this week.

Out: Banks (unlucky but see above)
In: Short

Bringing in Cumberland is not experimenting. Did the same late last year, playing the last 7 and the final. What's this guy gotta do, I am watching him in the ressies and he is playing damn good footy, team footy. We need players who can break the game open and kick goals which cumbers can 100%
On Anzac day Eve he kicked 3, yes 3 in the first and died out but he definitely has fine-tuned his game since then.

Likely Mansell out and even though I liked Bank's game, with Short coming in, guess Banks is out, like for like.
Ins: Short, Cumberland
Outs: Mansell, Banks

* Not sure if they go with Ryan instead of Miller. Either way one has to play.

Everyone but completely stuffs up game time for players vying for spots the following week
The 4 byes alongside 2 teams that are hopeless means VFL players have maybe 15 fans if decent football and can have stretches of 2-3 weeks where they don't play any decent games- makes it hard for guys trying to fight their way into the one's at times.

So true, it is a complete mess. Surely the clubs, not just the AFL clubs but also the stand alone old VFA clubs, are having a go at the AFL for this. It simply isn't good enough and it will impact on the standard of the game. You have to support the lower levels of the game to keep the elite level viable.

Not sure how Ryan has been playing but I'd like to see him back. And, FFS, tell him Jack has COVID so he goes nowhere near him, our forwards are terrible at stretching defences, they need to work on this. Would like to see Cumbo back too, just not sure who goes out.

Wish it were not so, but Jack 1 on 1 against either May or Lever could be a problem. His set shot kicking from greater than 30 out seems no longer reliable.
And I havn't looked up the stats, but he seems more dangerous and likely to mark and goal, when things get messy, closer in.

Macca to play more forward/ Ruck, if that’s not working I’d try Young forward/ruck.

The VFL fixturing is a joke.

22 round season. 21 teams in the league, so it seems logical that you play every team once, and you play 20 rounds with 2 bye rounds.

AFL logic however is different to normal logic, so we play 18 rounds and have 4 byes for some unknown reason and all clubs don't then play 2 of the other teams.

AFL run compromised fixtures even when there is a perfectly logical alternative.

For three quarters last Sunday we were run off our feet by an enthusiastic, younger, faster side.
Only when they tired did we balance up.

Stick with literally the same old this week and it could get even uglier.

Jack is so sore that he was having trouble getting out of a jog last Sunday.
His efforts to play every game have been heroic but he desperately needs a rest.
I assume that's unthinkable for Jack and the MC so then I would bring in Sampson Ryan for Miller as the back-up.
The Deez are a tough side and Samson has the attitude to take them on.
Miller is a gentle soul trying to make his way in a very physical sport and he needs a dramatic boost to his testosterone levels.

Coulthard just has to come in to the 22 for the rest of the year.
This week, for Mansell.

Cumberland in, maybe for Marlion - if we go tall with Samson.
I think Marlion has been maligned of late.
Yes his overall form has been down but his "bring the ball to ground" role in the forward line has been under-appreciated and his ability to do this and compete ferociously have been important in our Mini-revival.
But he's on the wrong side of 30 and for me, the remainder of this year is about getting games into the next crop of young 'uns, where possible.
Cumberland's euphoria levels are now back at optimal levels so get him in and let him play with some freedom.

If Shorty's right to go, a straight swap for Cotch.
Cotch is hanging on by his fingernails but two misses from the goal square and a jogging game last Sunday suggest another freshen up is required.

In: Ryan, Short, Cumberland, Coulthard.
Out: Miller, Cotchin, Mansell, Pickett.

It would be great to hear the reasoning. Maybe the clubs wanted it? Maybe it is financial? Maybe they just didnt want the VFL to have a fair fixture while the AFL doesnt?

Surely a 21 round season works- everyone plays 20 games and has 1 bye? or play a 22 round season, and have 3 bye rounds in the middle where 7 teams have a bye?

Brave post on here. I like it. I too think the side needs refreshing. We have been very ordinary the past fortnight against poor oppo.

Good post overall and agree on most, need to bring in short, cumbers more pace and for 3 qtrs we looked slow but some changes were made, Coulthard for one added some zip but imo it had nothing to do with them tiring and everything to do with Richmond going all chips in. At the ground you could see it, playing on at all times, keeping the ball in motion.
Hopper marks plays on, Prestia, ross, rioli, baker, Bolton all moving at pace.
Even when it looked like being a stoppage, we somehow got the ball out and off we went to the races. Also, our pressure went up 10-fold. Hawks just couldn't stop our frenetic style of play and we simply looked more desperate to win it.

I like your wish to include promising 1st year AFL players Banks, Bauer, Coalthard and Young, and your inclusion of Cumberland allowing for the decision to rest Cotchin.

But there are some pretty big holes. The only other player's to ever play in relief ruck are Balta and Riewoldt. One of Miller or Ryan for McIntosh or Riewoldt maybe, but that isn't going to happen.

Yeah good post. We need to generate some energy by bringing in some pace and dynamism with Short and Cumbo. Don’t understand how some people think we’re fine to keep on keeping on with the same old tired ways.
