Changes v Dees

v Melbourne
In Coulthard, Cumberland and Short.
Out Banks, Cotchin managed, and Pickett.

B Young Balta Grimes
HB Short Broad Rioli
C McIntosh Prestia Ross
HF Mansell Baker Cumberland
F Riewoldt Martin Miller
R Soldo Taranto Bolton
I/C Coulthard, Graham, Hopper and Vlastuin.
Sub Pickett.
I like this. Need Miller as second ruck and forward presence. My only concern, too small against them. if so, we can't afford to bomb long. Need to play like last time we play them. lower the eyes, having Short around the 50 M mark at all times.

Not sure we need young next week because who is his opponent? Unless they bring back Grundy
Balta can take Ben brown to the absolute cleaners
Gawn has to Ruck v soldo & miller

In short/ out young

Pickett needs a spell, was uncompetitive and has been for several games now.

Banks probably unlucky but with Short back, he goes out.

In Short, Cumberland
Out Banks, Pickett

Coulthard to be the super sub again.

We simply don’t have a key forward that’s fit who can break even with May , especially with Lever assisting him.

Our MC need to get creative I think, not sure what , however if we bomb long we’ll get flogged .

Cumberland for Pickett is a must imho , just have to tell Cumbo not to mark the ball and not kick goals ;)

Understand the theory with Miller , however he’s just no good and Lever isn’t going to show him one iota of respect so Lever will just play lose in the hole, in saying that not sure Ryan can offer much more , however it is atleast possible and hopefully if we play him deep he can get a few frees from armchops . We are going to have to be so smart going inside 50, maybe some chaos footy , hopefully we don’t allow a Scicily like performance from one of the Dees defenders .

Short for Mansell , Nigel is stiff but he was quiet on Saturday and Shorty is must pick.
Ross :))
sorry bad habit

Coulthard has to stay in the 23 we need pace against the Dees

I don’t think he’s ready but I think we have to get Bradkte in somehow. Or Ryan but preferably KB as he’s more of the KF than Sam. Miller is a trier but he’s not a KF.

in: Short Bradkte Cumberland
out: Pickett Mansell Miller

And yes, I know this won’t happen. Will probably be Shorty in for Mansell.

Really like Coulthard’s energy and warming to Banks but not sure you can have them both in the same team in a finals like game next week.
We simply need to win and need all the experience we’ve got.
In: Short, Cumberland.
Out: Banks, Mansell.
Sub: Mansell

I like your in's and outs but if Mansell is to be the sub don't you need to add another out? as you have only removed 1 player from our 23 but added 2.

Melbourne are currently only playing 1 ruck, Max (38 out of Melbournes 43 HOs yesterday) and pinch hitters from elsewhere. Would be same for us.

Yeah picked that up later but couldn't be bothered correcting my post once everyone had posted their thoughts
If we really don’t think we can win it, then great time to rest Cotchin to ensure he’s ripe for games we can and should win, but if they are going all out this Sunday, then drop Mansell. Pickett would be first choice on form but is playing a role in the forward line and we don’t have a replacement for him. Coulthard the sub again

Sounds good in theory, as I'd rather have another runner than Miller go in there. But the dees do have Brown and Van Rooyen up forward to help with rucking duties if need be. We only have Jack whos down on form. Miller or Ryan the more I think about it have to play to assist Soldo and Jack up forward.

Jack who is struggling himself, is going to face possibly the best defence in the game at the moment and I am not sure that Miller at this point of his development, has the game to be of much use against it.
He has ups and downs and is developing (like both Young and Ryan), but there it is.

It is a bit off the wall but no one takes a mark against Young.

Can see him being switched forward in a defensive roll if we are losing forward.
His spoiling gives him a capacity to hurt their defensive game and at the same time, to add a new element to our plan chaos game.

No Oliver, Hibberd, Grundy, Fritsch and Petty this time round compared to Anzac eve.

We need to win this and i feel we can. We played smart footy for 2.5 quarters last time and then started bombing it long again in the last quarter only for May and lever to start mopping up everything. Cumberland and Short in for Pickett and ?.... I know who I'd drop but no point typing it as it wont happen

There's a lot of players having their tires pumped after playing the 16th & 18th placed teams.
What a difference a 1 point victory as opposed to a one point loss makes.

This weekend is going to be a far bigger test against a team that has had the wood on us in recent times.
Whoever we pick is going to have their work cut out against Melbourne.

Hopefully those selected can get the job done but we'll need to play a whole lot better than we did against Hawthorn.

Banks is a tricky one, has been generally poor, but had a good last Q and contributed to the win, looked like a player for the first time, so seems harsh to drop him on that basis.

Pickett, has been down on form, but considering where our list is at, still provides running power and presence.

Mansell, wasn't as bad as some reckon, running power and pressure against a hard running side.

Still not rapt in Miller but I suppose we need the big lunk, begrudging stays. Young can be dropped, Melbourne don't have a big quota of threatening talls.

I'm torn, I'd like to bring in Coulthard to the starting side, Shorty is auto selection, and maybe Cumbo.

Out Young, Pickett or Mansell, Coulthard sub

In Short, Coulthard, Cumbo or Mansell sub

Bit of fence sitting there.

Correct. When we played them on Anzac Eve, we had 7 top players out and pretty much were ahead for 3 qtrs. Melbourne were pretty much at full strength.

This time around, with Short playing. We will have two major outs in Lynch and Nankervis and also Gibcus.

The Dees have Oliver, Grundy and Fritsch out. Petty (ribs) is a test and Hibberd is available for selection, but dees VFL had a bye last week so his first game back since RD 15 was in a scratch match.

If Bauer is declared fit, does he come back in?
Seems cruel that he doesn’t get another chance as he earnt his promotion and was injured through no fault of his own.
