Changes v Crows

Actually it's better to be woeful with the ball when you get 7 possesions than it is when you get 27 possessions.

CCJ and Ben Miller pulled out of the VFL game today
If Miller was selected against the crows it would be like throwing lambs to the wolves.

When you only get 7 disposals for a match (fourth least on the ground for either team) you can't afford to be woeful. 11 tackles doesn't read so well when placed in that context. Low possession, second to the ball and wasteful when he has it. And as for his junk time goal, well it wasn't enough to save Rioli from demotion 2 weeks ago when he did the same. Butler's return to the senior side has been underwhelming to say the least.

When tackles significantly outnumber possessions it tells you you're dealing with someone who is consistently second to the ball. And as for his goal, Rioli's junk time goal two weeks ago wasn't enough to demote him to the reserves

I agree but it wasn't just Butler, the Cats destroyed us with hard ball gets. They went after the pill, we waited out the back to try and tackle. There was a great example from a centre clearance in the 3rd, Prestia just waited whilst the Cats won the ball. More often than not, they were good enough to get the ball out first and then we were playing catchup.

Needs to be a real focus on actually going for the ball this week and not going for the tackle / turnover.

Have we become too tackle focused? Seems so.

Miller and CCJ both out today due to injury

What the hell is happening down there?
We were praised in 2017-2018 for our lack of injuries.

Seems to have caught up big time now.

That is true. I want Miller to succeed but from VFL reports he is still learning the game so would hate to see him crucified at the Adelaide Oval next week for playing when not ready for AFL.

Maybe time to give Chol the opportunity to show what he might be able to add to the team.
Soldo has been okay in the rucking duties, but after that, like others have observed, he has very little impact around the ground.
Being another tall option, Chol might be able to give Lynch a chop out in the forward line.

Pretty sure you were spouting the same stuff about Hardwick in 2016 .

It's ok to acknowledge when you are wrong.

There is no chance of Lamby admitting he is wrong. or of him acknowledging that Houli received coaches votes 3 games in a row before last night.

Just watching the Crows play tonight they have a lot of bigger body tallers players, if we go in short we will be destroyed at contests, particularly marking contests.
Might be time for Chol, we need to see if he can play at AFL anyway and we're on a hiding to nothing atm.

A bit of height is going to be important, particularly given that so many of the smalls are out of touch.
Gotta try something different against the Crows.
Might be very left field, but what about Chol down back and releasing Balta to the forward line??
CCJ in for Soldo??

All the good points you make are undone by your constant criticism of Houli.

Seriously Lamb let it go.

Its an unpopular viewpoint, but once you tune into what Lamb is talking about you can't un-see it.

Houli is almost totally unaccountable, so he must impact with his disposals otherwise the loose man for the opposition (either an extra at the contest or behind the ball) will hurt you but its not obvious it is Houli's man.

Ask yourself these questions about Houli game:

Why after games of 38, 37 and 27 aren't his disposals in any of the highlights in the last 3 weeks?

If Houli plays loose of half back and clocks up heaps of stats but the team gets flogged - what does that tell you?

Why has Edwards started to taking the kickouts from Q4 of the North game. (because Houli simply doesn't look and he is only interested in metres gained). Lamb is right to say he is a selfish player, as Houli knows that if he gets his stats and metres everyone sings his praises.

Once you start seeing it, you can't unsee it.

Don't get me wrong, Houli is in our best 22, but he needs to be instructed to play team first football. It is a couching thing. Right now, Houli is a law unto himself and everyone is singing praises.

Put simply, Houli doesn't impact the game and his opponent at the contest often does.
