Changes V Carlton

I cannot remember a time when we have had hardly anyone on the injury list, we always tend to have 5-6 good players on it, good to see us mostly healthy.

Their back half is decimated. No Weitering, Marchbank, McDonald, McGovern, Williams. Add in no Cerra or Pittonet and we simply must win this Thursday.

We have no excuses if we don’t win this one

With an injury list like Carlscum's got we should be looking at a % booster. Reality n form says I'll take any winning margin we can get.

Blues are dangerous when they play Cripps forward, goaling on the run from the 50 metre arc.
They will try to replicate that, but they have so many injuries now.
The Pies kept them goalless in the third quarter.
The Blues only scored three junk time goals in the last, to make it look close.

Where are we on the ladder of clearances?
Midfield wins games
Dimma admits we are not a contested ball team, we set up for turnovers, when sides can work though that and don't turn it over then we look ordinary. I do scratch my head through with the aging Cotch, Prestia and then throw in Grahame, Edwards and Bolton why we are not winning a few more contested ball.

RDC and Ross I thought would help in that space but opportunity and development has not translated to that. The last Q in Round 1, Carlton did as they pleased in the center, their half backs ran hard and it made it look like it was 10 to 5 at a blink of an eye after each center bounce. We have to work much much harder to deny that Thurs night

Its more than that, our contested possession differential is about mid table, at -1.5, similar to the Swans and better than the Pies.
Our centre clearance work isn't too bad at all, we have a positive differential of 0.7 (ranked 7th), its around the ground clearances we get beaten in (ranked joint bottom with the Bombers). I'm not certain why this is, but I suspect its largely due to having 1 less around the stoppage so we can setup for the rushed kick out of the stoppage and the turnover that provides, especially in our forward half. It would be interesting to see forward / back half clearance differential.

Soldo just has to be given a spell. One ruck in Nank and support should suffice.

There was one team on the weekend (can’t remember which one now) where anyone was taking the ruck duties when the main ruck wasn’t/couldn’t.

I’ve always liked the nank/Soldo combo… however if we are losing clearances and Soldo isn’t providing anything around the ground or hitting the scoreboard… u do have to wonder whether it’s worth persisting with - Especially with our fade outs. Perhaps we need the extra runner. Do we back Balta in for 5 mins a qtr to do the second ruck gig? It’s an interesting talking point.
