Changes for Semi

Im concerned the effect DTLD is inadvertantly having on the back 6. Noah has gone quiet on his return.
this concern has been wandering around my head. Noah was on fire.
i can understand DTLD is 'establishment' but some kind of rhythm changed.
thought it a bit with Prestia coming back last night as well.

I really think we need Broad back to give us some backline flexibility. Don’t know where that leaves Astbury. Balt A’s influence has definitely waned since Dave’s return. Backline not as dynamic as it was before that.

IN: Lynch, Broad,

OUT: Chol, Aarts

broad covers baltas role down back with Balta pinch hitting in the ruck and resting FWD

Based on last night, and the majority of the season mind you, Pickett simply must be dropped. People say he does some brilliant things,... I just dont see it. What im seeing is a guy who is really costing us with his turnovers, poor decision making and unreliable disposal. Honestly I thought it probably cost us the game last night, just so many momentum killers that would have otherwise given us a real chance to get the W.

If we have a guy who is a lock in selection but is only getting it 12 times a game playing in the midfield , he better be doing something special with it every time. Instead its the opposite.

Caddy over Pickett is a nobrainer for mine.

Not sure what game people were watching to be calling for Lambert to be dropped.

Thought the same, watched it again and still don't see what people were saying last night and again today about Lambert. Thought he was probably in our top 5 last night, it was just not your normal Lambert game. Way more contested, couldn't get that forward handball often enough to be the link up role, hence why he had so many of his disposals being handballs.

I'm for that change as well. I don't see it either. If we just want someone to run back and cover space, Caddy can do that too (he proved that last year), but his disposal is far far better than Picketts.

I reckon Broad needs to come back in. I reckon we have missed his gut running into holes in the backline. Balta, Astbury and Grimes have different roles.

Balta fills the Rance role, so for mine the reason we look out of sorts back there is because we haven't got Broad.

What I'm I missing Balta is not playing the same since Dave come back ?.
He was previously playing on the opposition's best forward so a lot of entries were directed to him and he did brilliantly. Now he is just one of a collective. He actually played ok last night. Although he is not marking the ball as well ATM - he was running under a few last night.

Chol is a bust and cannot be trusted again
Agreed. 'Fingers crossed' is not a wise element of an effective gameplan. We all hoped he could do it, but he didn't. Just contrast his pathetic effort up forward where Robinson took that uncontested mark, to Caddy's seasoned move the match before where he used his body to edge out an opponent, mark and goal. Setting aside ruck influence, it's not silly to say that Caddy would have genertated at least one more goal FOR, and one less goal AGAINST, because he would have reduced the amount of intercept marks, etc.

He hasn't as he doesn't obviously have the number 1 job to make it easy for him. They havent got the same fluidity.

This is another reason I think Noah should relieve Nank in the ruck and play free for the next few games if we progress.

Noah can re start his defensive development next pre season with Dave no harm done.

Broad slots in 2019 premiership defence no problems they know how it rolls.

Too easy for mine.

It's a option better with Chol one now , so while not relieving Nank he plays up forward or around the ground.

Sorry Craig I don’t get this logic. We haven’t done this all year. Even when Nank was out, it was Soldo and Chol doing the ruck work. Why all of a sudden would we change this? Balta is in career best form. You don’t mess with that.
Because Chol can't do the job. Simple as that. He is not AFL standard.

I think we don't make any fancy changes, we get back to doing what we do best. But it depends who our next opponent is.

In Lynch, Broad

Out Chol, Pickett

I assume Caddy is not fit.

Balta to the bench initially and then to play a tall utility role. Support Nank in the ruck and pinch hit where required.
If Saints win maybe Balta can shadow Rohan Marshall everywhere including Ruck. Nank takes Ryder. Astbury takes King.
If Footscray win, I've got no idea as they are using Josh Dunkley as back up ruck...Maybe we counter that with ???

Sadly Chol is not up to it so we cant risk playing him in a cut-throat final.
Reckon Dimma will also send a message to Pickett for his undisciplined 50 m penalty he gave that resulted in a goal just before half time. A bad time to be dropped but Dimma did it to Caddy after port game and Pickett's indiscretion was worse.
So I reckon the following will happen:
Out: Chol, Pickett
In: Lynch, Broad
Reckon the back up rucks will be Broad, Balta and Astbury with Jack and Lynch sharing some of the forward half work to give Nank a chop out.
Caddy could come in instead of Broad as a direct replacement for Pickett or Baker / Houli could move up to the wing.
Reckon our small forwards will be much better with Lynch back in the side so calls to drop Aarts are premature.
