Changes against Collingwood.

Is Prestia out officially? I reckon there was some foxing Friday night with an 80+pt lead to get him off and give Ross 30 min of football.

Im not a lip reader but twice on Friday I reckon I picked up 1. WC coach - Simmo - say "what happened there" - post the Naish turn over, goal to Prestia. 2. Prestia on the bench say - I need a rest.

No strapping, no ice, no look of despair, no limp, no team mates embracing him. All good I reckon. Club needs to mask there was an issue. Not sure what the penalty is for manipulating the sub rule. A rule and area that can simply be fixed by simply enabling 5 on the bench - no sub.

If they go in with Tarrent, it cant be a small/mid size player that makes way. We cant play Nanak, Soldo, Balta, Tom. Broad, Gibcus, Vloss and Grimes are your more versatile running talls. We can include Tarrent for ie Stack. IMO It would have to come down to Gibcus, Broad or Soldo.

Or he plays VFL as the vacant full sign is up.

Who is playing on Draco Malfoy?
Daniel. Kid will get a reality check.

So, ins are definite: Cotch, Dusty, Marlion.
Outs are harder to pick, especially with unknowns on Prestia's and Lambert's recoveries. I'm going to assume for now that both are right to play. That makes it harder. RCD looms as an automatic out but he was okay in the big-bodied defensive mid role. Almost Cotch-like numbers. If we accept lower disposal numbers for our champion as a result of his defensively-focused 'team game', as we have over the past five years, then we should do likewise for our 11-gamer, especially since we have a stated desire to protect Chimp from that bash-and-crash role. Riley's a big boy; he left some bruises on Friday night.

I'm trying to find a way to keep Riley in the side, to give him a run of games so we're sure on what we do or don't have. If he can take over from Chimp in that role, Dion, Shai, Short, and Whatsisface, number 4, can attack, and Trent can be redeployed...where? Change mid, in against their B-team. Happy birthday, old fella. But where when not mid? Not back, we're full to overflowing. So, forward. Likely exclusion: Stack.

But we want Stack in, don't we? It's not the end of the world if he goes back to the 2s - as Jack says in Syd's thread, he can go back and concentrate on getting a kick in the midfield. But his pressure was good. He's in our best forward line, right? Ideally? We like to give promoted players more than one game in a row, usually?

So, here's an experiment. Can Chimpa play the George role? Or a version of it? I've always loved and supported George, but let's have a look.

Shedda 'managed' means we need to find one more out. Is Jayden staying in the midfield? He has to, doesn't he? Elite running, elite use. Shifts to outside running role. Who's in that spot? Jack Graham. Jack's coming from behind the 8-ball, so we manage him too.

Experimental:
In: Cotchin Martin Pickett
Out: Castagna Edwards Graham

B - Grimes Balta Gibcus
HB - DRioli Broad Vlastuin
C - Pickett Martin McIntosh
HF - Bolton Cotchin Lambert
F - Riewoldt Lynch MRioli
R - Nankervis Collier-Dawkins Prestia
I - Short Baker Soldo Stack
Sub - Edwards/Graham

Status Quo:
In: Cotchin Martin Pickett
Out: RCD Stack Edwards (managed)

B - Grimes Balta Gibcus
HB - DRioli Broad Vlastuin
C - Pickett Martin McIntosh
HF - Bolton Castagna Lambert
F - Riewoldt Lynch MRioli
R - Nankervis Cotchin Prestia
I - Short Baker Soldo Graham
Sub - Edwards/Stack/RCD

This team for me. We need to address some issues relating to long term form and the management of our seniors - and this team does that.

Yes, I think so too, FFW. We can't beat Melbourne unless we strengthen the midfield. More numbers, more options, more size, strength, speed, skill.

I think going with Tarrant would be a mistake. Collingwood haven't got a tall forward line and Grundy is also out.

For a bloke that makes a lot of sense almost all the time the george hate is hard to underastand. He has played an important role in all ou=r flags. Important. And you continue to denigrate him. Its baffling really. After one game you essentially nominate MRJ as an upgrade? So harsh on george.
I don't believe CT was saying that based on one game MRJ is an upgrade. Rather that based on many George should be considered as no longer good enough to command a place in the team.

I know it’s not done in this manner - but I would like a permanent couple of slots kept open by the MC to rotate through the likes of RCD, Mujo, Dow, Stack, Miller, Nyuon, Sonsie, Clarke, Banks etc depending on form and readiness. ‘Manage’ the seniors to achieve this outcome.

correct - we need to find ways to develop our midfield while we accumulate the wins.

You'll need to make an minor adjustment @spook, Marlion won't be available for selection this week :( , most likely next.

Was listening to Simon Garlic (freo CEO ) yesterday about how rampant covid is in the WA community.
Let's hope the blokes who stayed over for the weekend have ......
a).... recently had it and recovered, or
b).... been extra careful, or
c).... time will tell, I suppose.
It's running at exactly double the rate in Vic over last week. Other states went through ths primarily in the pre season.
