Captain Cotchin

I don't think I've had the chance to do this yet. Cotchin just wouldn't lay down and play dead. Until now.

If Deledio had ever played a game like Cotchin did on the weekend Punt Road would now be burnt to the ground, its smouldering ruins adorned with the bodies of the current recruiting staff (disembowelled in honour of those that made the error of recruiting him). But the protected species Chimpin Cotchin can ponce about a park pretending to captain a football team with nerry a word said.

If Cotchin made three efforts during the entire game they were only to pass wind. Let's hope he had a bit more luck with that than passing an opponent or a football.

Sure, you or I would be pretty insulted if we were matched up on Scott Selwood but at least we'd make the effort to break even with him; we may be humble but nobody wants a rubber chicken shoved up their arse - first prize in the "Can't get a kick on Scott Selwood" raffle. There was a bit of the delicate ego of Tivendale about Chimpa on Sunday, even if he's not as good a kick. And plenty of Nick Daffy in the honesty department - Selwood may have misplaced his wallet.

Trent has everything needed to captain the club for many years to come. Except he's a bit too important.

BTW I hope Chimpa didn't show any vim today - you know, stickin his hand out for his weekly pay. Coz he didn't show any on Sunday when it was time to earn it.

We've had plenty of bludgers down at Richmond. We've had plenty of lairs. We're lookin for a leader.
Not an old pace bowler by any chance Dyer'ere?
Straight in off the long run and whistled a few round his ears. You're a brave man slamming Cotchy with all the Chimpaholics trawling these pages.

It appears flat track bullies pick their targets very carefully. :rofl

Chimp is having an awesome season, but not his best game last week.

He is 21 years old and has the second most clearances in the AFL, 6th in kicks and 5th in inside 50s. So he wins his own ball a lot, and he gets it inside 50 a lot rather than cheap kicks across half back. And he is kicking more goals this year. He is clearly better than Gary Ablett jr was at the same age, and is still behind where his fitness would be if he had had three good pre-seasons instead of one.

Captains have to have leardership ability, frankly Lids doesn't seem to have but is still a very good (if not great) player. Chimp has leadership ability and will be the captain from 2013

We are ranked about 15th for clearances, so this shows how much of the weight he is carrying.

Yep, the future skippers's had an awesome season considering his age & the platform he's had to come from.

Will waltz away with the first of many B & F 's come end of year.

Cotchin's my favourite too although I wouldn't discount Deledio, Brett's had a very consistent season even by his lofty standards.

Yep Lids a clear 2nd.

Unfortunately it gets pretty bare after that doesnt it. Probably explains why we are where we are.

That's because he hasn't laid down until now.

Too right.

You can't blame him for stumbling a little. Selwood is a determined little scragger and from Streak's reports at the ground he got a lot of help giving Cotch a hard time.

The kid has character. He'll bounce back. I'm confident he's the leader we're looking for.

Heh heh I knew Rosy would love that post.

Fair point about the Lids comparison I think.

Not sure I have said this before but that is rubbish from the great man.

So much wrong with that it's not funny.

;D Life's just not that serious. (I don't believe only one person got a laugh out of the rubber chicken.) Enjoy, PREnders.

he's clearly playing sore, wouldn't surprise if he missed the last few to have a clean up and be ready for the pre-season.

People who say his last game wasn't his best should have seen the attention he was copping from the Eagles. How no one was cited is an absolute wonder of the modern world.

I have come around on Cotch as skipper. I rate him as a future captain, but thought we should wait another ouple of years to let him get his on game under control.

On what I saw last Sunday, he should get the job from the end of this season.

Cotchin's best two games were against the best two sides in the comp. 30 touches against Collingwood. 38 touches against Geelong. Thats says alot about his leadership. I don't want a leader who feeds on the weak and then goes missing in big games. Cotchin aint that.

We've never won a match when the Chimp was captain. Its obvious to anyone with their open that the Chimp should be traded now while his value is relatively high.

Appears to me that the concious decision to draft players with good leadership might pay dividends at some point.

Correct Disco, another reason not to jump the gun with our selection of Conca over Heppell.

Great game from the Chimp.

How hard does he go at the ball.

Dragged his teammates along like a true captain does.

Absolute no brainer to make him captain next year, he's ready & will thrive in the role.
