Can the Richmond Football Club afford to take John Butcher?

Hayden Burgiel started well but was not at his best all day while John Butcher kicked one goal, seven behinds and an out of bounds on the full.

Add to that

Butcher was causing a problems for the Maroons with his marking and ground play, but unfortunately his kicking for goal was not up to the standard required of a future AFL player.

and it becomes quite clear that Butcher can get the ball no doubt, but after 15+ years of watching Richo butcher chances, I'm not sure we could handle having another forward with goal kicking that is so unreliable.

This is beyond doubt now.

We have numerous examples of Butcher's ability to dispose of the ball and kicking for goal brake down at TAC Cup, Country Football and Under 18's champs.

We cannot afford to let another high draft pick be used on a player who has a massive skill issue.

If we take Butcher it will be moment I start crossing off Craig Cameron and Francis Jackson as capable of putting together a modern AFL list.

After re signing King and Schulz you can already cross Cameron off the list Scoop.

Big question marks on this bloke.

Sure it was a mistake to re-sign those two but are you going to give him any credit for now putting the broom through the list?

Or are you in the "its all Hardwicks doing" corner?

Hardwick is supposaby a fan of schulz and wants to play him full-back next year
great idea, he is tough and can read the play, just need to get him motivated
there are worse players than schulz playing FB at AFL level

Agreed. Would be nice to have a key defender who could actually hit a target.

has not made a hard decision as yet you want credit handed out for him doing something stevie wonder would have done in consultation with his seeing eye dog. if hes so all seeing ask yourself why he waited until the advent of a compromised draft before he started the clean out.
bloody hell have you seen some of the re-signings i have no doubt they have made it up as they have gone so far.

Some are going to love that. ;D
Question marks in the air defensively but he's certainly a big body and he can kick.
In saying that I'll be surprised if he's not traded.

Credit to no one re the delistings so far.

Every single one outta contract so no hard decisions at all.

What Cameron needs to do is show some nuts and move on his mistakes in Schulz and the likes of Pattison and McMahon, Tuck Raines ect for draft picks. Also playing hard ball and offering up a McGuane or Moore for trade would be a sign of a bloke that has a whip hand on the list and is proactive, then he may get some credit, his crap decision making and gaffs with the media have been poor and to be honest from what ive seen so far i dont think hes the best man for the job as far as taking the RFC forward. Was Cameron THE BEST or just the best available.

For a list manager to keep on proven duds in Schulz, Pattison,m King ect is testament to his own inability to do the job properly and is also a reflection of *smile* strategy and myopic or near sighted ill thought out long term plannig as they have the list needing massive attention when the drafts are about to be contrived.

Like ive said ad nauseum Johnston and Pettifer shoulda been shown the door last year and Schulz should have been traded, to free up 3 more places for kids, now the club has to carry duds such as King, Schulz ect for another year at least.

Anyone could and would do that. There aint no merit in giving the ass to blokes without contracts.

Re signing Schulz andf King was nothing but hideous incompetance and now the club will have to pay to get rid of two blokes that are nothing more than millstones, i mean there aint one other club in the comp that would afford possibly 8 years to a dud who has done so little and as undeserving of such gratus such as Schulz its laughable and embarrassing that he is at the club still.

And ferals search for answers why the club is so crap. ............................ the clubs going nowhere while the likes of Schulz, Jackson, White, McGuane, Pattison, Graham and Polos of this world are there.

Shocking list really bad the more we cut the more we see just how bloody poor things are.

Schulz a Full Back. Fair Dinkum Full backs need pace, urgency second and third efforts and need to be proactive not reactive.

Rance is the one who should be developed at Full Back, he has what is required to make it at FB has urgency, has pace has intencity and second and 3rd efforts has the courage !!!

Schulz has none of these attributes the bloke is too slow, reactive, too lazy, and lacks urgency.

Dead set laughable .................................. I can see this dud still at the RFC in 2011 with some debating the merit in trying Jay as a Rover cos hes tried and failed twice to three times over in every other position.

I cannot stand watching this dud play for the RFC , i cant stand him and seeing the likes of him and other duds like Polo, McGuane White and King taking the field for my beloved tigers they are advertisements of mediocrity and its acceptance.

GET RID OF THIS SPACE WASTING LAZY ASSED GOOD FOR NOTHING LIST CLOGGING IMPOSTER CAMERON YOU LIMP *smile*

Agree. Nothing super done yet, easy choices. Good choices and the right words being spoken but nothing hard yet.

Ray Hall gave more to the side than this useless prick.

I was wrong on him two years ago for pick 28, he's been a massive disappointment. Yes some knew better.
I think he should be traded but I am buggered if I know what they'll get for him at this point.
Same with many of the names you have mentioned.
It's one thing to say Cameron hasn't made hard decisions to trade any of these duds but it's the perenial problem at Tigerland and you've answered it yourself..who's going to give up anything for duds??
