Callum Coleman-Judas - extricate yourself to Nth Ballarat, you git

Could you please explain again why #lolnorf should be respectful?

CCJ and his management don’t want this heading to the PSD.

I reckon North will break. It won’t be pick 20 but something significantly more favourable than a third rounder.

It’s entirely possible that Norf, knowing that we could just keep CCJ on slightly less $$ for one year, are pissed off at us and making sure our slew of dominos don’t fall as quickly as we’d like.

But a fair deal will be done. I don’t think PSD happens for players like CCJ anymore.

This scenario is one of my favourite bug bears regarding the AFL. All the angst n song and dance over " FAIR " trading for players. Far as I'm concerned, Cujo's out of contract n refused our offer, he should be able to go where he pleases for free and so should any and all other players who come to the end of their contracts.
It's the players career n livelihood we're talking about. If he's served out his contract period and wants to leave for more money, more playing opportunity, more chance at success, closer to home or whatever. Then it's the players choice and his right to do so. All this pissin in the wind about a fair trade or an advantageous trade is simply *smile*. He aint a slave he's a paid n contracted employee, when the contract is done he's entitled to move along.

Let's say you went to work for a law or an accounting firm. They paid for your degree and gave you a small wage along the way, but they expect you to hang around for three years after you completed it, so they could realise the benefit, you do it. It's a fair trade.
CCJ has been given a lot of personal and professional development. He's been told he's wanted, that he has a long term future at the club. But he wants out. Now, sure you can bail. It wasn't in your contract to stay, but the rules are you're not a free agent. The club developing you has some right to get some compensation back for their effort. All clubs should respect that.
BUT if the AFL was truly trying to be fair, then Richmond (or any similar club) should be able to trade you to the highest bigger that can meet your requirements financially.

whatever way you look at and all the points considered...

a future 3rd round pick is an insulting and amateurish opening gambit at best...

My guess. In pick 20 + Tarrant, out CCJ and 28, only way I see us getting 20

It’s disgusting - I hope Balme told Luff it was lucky discussions were not face to face otherwise he would have been put through the *smile* wall

Yeah but taking the sport angle out if this. Pretty much all organisations invest in their staff with training and development. A kid straight out of uni who has a law degree is not really who i would want representing me until he has some runs on the board. By the same token, that young guy after an apprenticeship who gets an offer to go work for another firm on more money is entitled to take it.
Back on the footy front. We all know statistically that out of all the players drafted that actually go on to play 200 games are in the minority and most disappear without trace. So, the big bucks aren’t there forever. Yes, i am annoyed that after 4 years of time with the Club he is leaving. Particularly when he appears just about ready to step up, but how many of us would knock back guaranteed income of $400-450k pa for 4 years regardless of whether we actually perform.
I have recently retired after 42 years and never had the knowledge that if i just rolled up to work i would be paid. If i had someone give me 4 years of certainty stretching out ahead of me… well that would have been nice.
Not sure if it would have been wonderful for my work ethic though. I might not have got an extension!

This entire plot has holes everywhere and no-one has covered themselves in glory. The cast:

Glenn Luff

Not content with seeing Collingwood FC thrust the miserably miscast Ned Guy into the spotlight, North wheels out Luff and he immediately fluffs his lines. A total misread of the collegiate trading atmosphere promoted by successful clubs, Luff begins negotiations through the media and only serves to underline his club's minnow status. An ill-considered line that want-away rucks tend to go around the 3rd round pick that North holds—apparently a sly reference to the Toby Nankervis trade—indicates a degree of smart-arsery that is known to shorten careers.

Richmond FC

Coleman Jones was an odd selection at pick #20 in the 2017 draft yet it's fair to say Soldo has become a revelation and has possibly cost the draftee games he may otherwise have been expected to play. The contract reportedly offered by the club to Coleman Jones has a sense of 'unders' about it and, perhaps, was the catalyst for the way this unfortunate tale is unfolding. Has stood by its player, somewhat tragically. Must not be seen to be bent over in negotiations or else this storyline could have sequels.

North Melbourne FC

Have sold Coleman Jones a dream it probably can't deliver while Goldstein commands 90% of the ruck role. Have stood behind Luff in the farce by offering four years at good coin then throwing up a junk pick in return. Stands to benefit from its role as a perennial B-grade performer by walking Coleman Jones to the pre-season draft, where it could actually shoot itself in the foot should a better option present itself. Disrespectful performance to date.

Callum Coleman Jones

Cast as the villain of the piece in some quarters, perhaps with some justification. Failed to endear himself to the Richmond faithful, starting with a bizarre on-field outburst in the VFL towards Marlion Pickett, who'd just taken one of the great pack marks of all time. Gathered a reputation for a sly drink early on then, allegedly, cost someone their job as part of the dopey duo who brought a $100k fine upon the club. Somewhat underwhelming performances when given the chance on the big stage.

If he has indeed been offered three years at Richmond, his choice to move to North Melbourne for one extra year looks hopelessly short-sighted. Would likely have ascended to a key role at Tigerland in 2023, yet has chosen to perform in front of empty houses for an easy pay cheque.

Critic's review

This show is a deadset stinker and no-one comes out of it well. Back in the day, it would have gone straight to the bargain bin at your local VHS store.

Jimbob the example I gave was 2 of my high school friends who got scholarships to do law and accounting.
They both had all their education costs paid for, and $150 a week while studying. Their development was done, at the expense of these companies. They had to stay for 3 years past graduation (or repay the education expenses), and work all school holidays whilst studying. I think it's a good contrast with what AFL clubs do. The years before you can become a free agent is the equivalent of the contract clause for my friends.
For CCJ, we've not had any benefit for the development given.
If its a fair environment, we should be able to trade him anywhere, provided the money is the same as North's offer.

I honestly think North's offer to us for CCJ reflects a knowledge of a key point in the CCJ situation.

The Tigers don't really want him. We could easily keep him if we wanted to. We would pay a premium to do so, but it isn't like North pushed the price to ridiculous levels.

The lack of interest from other clubs in such a 'promising' young player is telling IMO.

I think we will see CCJ cross to North in the preseason draft.

David king on fox tonight talking about the Coleman Jones trade.
'Why trade for him, when you can get him for free"
And people on here thought they were going to get pick 20.
2017 Draft is an absolute kokup
Sits comfortably alongside 2004 and the Vickery draft.

We are the only side in the comp that can never get a decent pick ij return when a player wants out.
Wellingham 1st rounder
Seedsman 2nd rounder
Dawes 1st rounder
Heath shaw for Taylor Adams (that one was the only failure)
