for the millionth time, Mabs is a free agent, we cant trade him.
we will get compensated an end of 3rd round pick from the AFL, at best
Well we can.
For example
If we have FA coming in and don’t want to dilute the compo pick for Chol leaving or
the club Chol goes to has a FA leaving and they don’t want to dilute their compo pick.
Its the sum of net gain/loss. So says the AFL.

In those circumstances you can trade a FA.

Out of interest, the next time Chol is out of contact (after he signs on somewhere this time round ), is he still an unrestricted free agent?

Or does his status revert to restricted free agent?

I understand the rule that makes him unrestricted this time, but just wondering if that then continues to carry on each time he is out of contract, or if it reverts to the normal free agent rules.

Yeah, but if we can package him up as a sweetener to a club that's happy to have him alongside of Cujo. Then it simply makes the deal look all the more fair n equitable.
Pick 3 for a pair of young n up coming ruck / forward players fills needs for everyone. Hypothetically of course.

true. the only drawback would be we would still have Chol on our list, and not CCJ. Besides those small details it is the better option.
Reckon many here simply overrate how good CJ can be. Trade high buy low. Cholly is good insurance

Will always be a free agent.

Same stuff, could leave, should know by the end of the week

Tiger talls to make call on future

By Michael Gleeson

Two Richmond key forwards and rucks could be poised to leave the club, upending the Tigers’ plans for rebuilding their premiership squad on the run.
Highly rated Callum Coleman-Jones will decide next week if he will accept a two-year offer to remain at Punt Road or pursue a move, with Gold Coast and North Melbourne leading the push for the out-of-contract player.

Athletic teammate Mabior Chol is sought by Essendon and North Melbourne as a versatile tall who could play in the ruck or as a key forward.
Unlike Coleman-Jones, Chol is an unrestricted free agent, so he can walk to other clubs without Richmond having the chance to match contract terms offered and force a trade. If the contract offer for Chol is sufficiently high Richmond could still receive a compensation pick in return.

Coleman-Jones was drafted at pick 20, the first pick in the second round of the 2017 national draft, having played most of his junior football as a ruckman and forward. The 200-centimetre tall has spent four years at Richmond developing primarily as a forward behind Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt.
The 21-year-old has played just nine games, including eight this season, with the Tigers believing more opportunities will continue to open up in the forward line with Riewoldt entering what is likely to be in his last season next year.

This time last year Coleman-Jones and teammate Sydney Stack were suspended for 10 matches and the club fined $100,000 when the pair was involved in a fight outside a kebab shop after they had been kicked out of a strip club on the Gold Coast.

That fine had to be included in the club’s soft cap on football spending.

Let’s hope he picks GC if he leaves. I suspect we will get a far better deal trade wise than North.

Gee thanks Michael Gleeson.
Old news.
We were never going to keep both and Cj wants more coin and more years.
Even Adelaide have gone cold on him.
It's either GC or North. His career will fulfilled with so much success.
Good luck

CJ is a campaigner if he leaves after what he put the club through last year. Prick owes us
