Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Can see why he slipped so far in his draft.
His kicking so just so poor anything over 20 is a worry..
Been gifted games games like in the dark old days.

Reckon his going all right , I think the expectations of him been our first pick and his first couple of games are a bit unfair. Considering he starts deep and the amount of AFL games his played I thinks his finding a reasonable amount of the footy, roves packs well. Kicked a beauty from 50 , however no doubt needs to spend some serious time in front of the sticks working on his set shot kicking.

The more I see him the more I see midfielder not small forward, I think it’s just his great footy nous that gets him in seat 1A at the fall of the ball, I think once Rioli is back will see him push up the ground more.

When he missed his easy one, it was the right decision to take the shot - he just had to kick it. He runs to space a lot 15-30m out and then does star jumps wanting everyone to "kick it to me". Needs to work on his accuracy for set shots or he needs to stay out of the forward line cos the senior players will wait and look for a different option.

If you could demonstrably improve players set shot kicking you could make a few dollars at any team int the afl. We would put in Dan, George, Higglet, Tyson, Shai, Moore, Jack when he gets the yips, the list just goes on.

We are the best attacking team in the afl because we are great at soccer and the best at getting shots from 10-15m out max. Lets put the Richmond name on the world stage. Richmond FC - We play great soccer!

Relative to other small forwards on our list I’d say he s ahead at same stage, 4 games in , gets a good amount of ball 14-15p which would be 30% higher than the others at the beginning of their journey. That said we are a top side and the bar is reasonably high, rough edges need to be honed, he ll be ok , don’t worry

He is miles ahead even at this early stage compared to that other 1st rounder we let go (Lennon) for example and it’s an interesting debate to compare him with the 1st rounder we still have on the list - Cellis - and I somehow think he has moved past him as well.

So has he moved past Bolton also - maybe or maybe not I am not sure.

Early days but I am happy to give him a few more games.

Tracking well but a long way to go.

Still looks slow on the spread.

Higgins has got the will and is should be a great acquisition for us. Re Cellis he has been a slow starter and a bit injury prone but appears to have bulked up a bit, still silky smooth and above all toughened up so still ahead of Higgins on points in my opinion

Like what he brings as a player. But I have to agree. His kicking technique looks really flawed. Has missed a lot of easy shots and missed them badly.

Reckon a month of VFL footy on the ball getting it 30 times a game is best for him ATM.

I'm sure he's going to be a good player, just don't think he's quite ready just yet. Can someone tell me why he gets a game ahead of Stengle?

Can anyone help me out on Higgy's kicking? I haven't seen him live and I can't get a handle on it. Seemed like he couldn't kick over a jam jar, missing sodas and not making the distance from 35, then he bombs one from 50. Are the missed sodas and limp kicks from nerves? Or did he just really get onto one?

Have a look at the big hook he put on the run up, the loop and the kick across the body. JR does the same when he's outside his range. It gives you a bit of extra distance (it's kind of like how you take a place kick in soccer or NFL/NRL etc) but you run the risk of hooking it badly.

Even then, it only just cleared the line (or didn't, apparently). Higlet's range is limited, I wouldn't back him from anything outside 40, but with a big hook and good connection, he probably gets close to 50.

I reckon he knows his kicking range is pretty low, which is why he's trying to kick the skin off the thing with his set shots. It's causing a few hooks/slices. He probably needs to just time it and place it as best he can, and let the distance sort itself out.

I agree he battles with anything over 40m to make the distance. I reckon he will become a midfielder eventually so it won't be as much of an issue as it would be if he was going to play as a small forward.

50 is his absolute limit atm. Could improve a little as he gets stronger but he's not going to be a prodigious long kick, probably similar in ability to a Lambert.

Need some snags from Higlet this week
Didn't you like the one he kicked last week? Banged it through from fifty, sweet as................................ n then some *smile* wit in a clown suit stole it off him.

Lucky to be in the team.....don’t get me wrong, he will be a great player for us, but he needs to get blooded in the VFL a bit more.....
Regardless of what we hear about team unison etc...no one can tell me that George, Miles, Stengle, Lloyd, and the injured Bolton , aren’t thinking “How the *smile* does he get a game ahead of me?”.....it will wear a bit thin after awhile, and to the detriment of the team......

George is injured.
Miles plays a differnet role and has had his chances.
Stengle is a rookie so deserves no more than Higgins.
Bolton injured as you say.
Lloyd should feel lucky he's even on the list, let alone whining about others getting a game before him.

And if those lot did crack the *smile* - big deal. Hardly list breakers.
