Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

So you think the 1st diddle - Butler - was a big win for us? LOL.

It's hard to evaluate Higgins value properly due to the coming back from major surgery factor etc so I am going on what we gave for him, and what we invested. He was contracted too. Overall, I call it another win to the Aints. As many others seem to as well.

So I don't agree. Our LM team have proven excellent ... on recent rookie and FA selections. Not so sure on first rounders. LOL
1st diddle, are you 12 ? No it wasn't a big win for us, it was a win / Win, we got something & they got something

Butler was out of contract , we had NO bargaining power

Short memory. Think 2018 as an 18yo (you can't judge him on anything else as he had a dodgy brain). Averaged 16 disposals and kicked 15 goals as a forward. Oozes smarts and creativity. If he applied himself as much as Castagna, you seriously think he wouldn't achieve more?
absolutely he had a great 1st year, no one disputes that

He used to ooze smarts and creativity, he hasn't for 2 years for very obvious reasons, he may or may not get back to that

Oh & BTW George has 3 Premiership Medals, he has achieved a bit

After the 2018 prelim,

I was crying into my rum in a dark corner of dane swans joint. I was in my dusty tshirt. I was in a very dark mood.

Nobody was coming within 10m of me. I was numbing the pain, getting steadily plastered.

Then this kid comes up to me and introduces himself

'Jack higgins' he extended his hand 'sorry about last night'

I laughed and told him he had nothing to be sorry for, he was one of our best. I congratulated him on an outstanding debut season.

The following year, he took my boy under his wing at some extra training like he was a teammate.

We went to the moonee valley races on grand final eve. Loving Gaby strolled in at 5's.

Jack is a great kid. A very good footballer who got thrown an unimaginable curveball for a 20yo.

Who knows what the future holds? He wants to play footy and make a decent living in his 10 year window.

I wish Jack all the very best.

He'll go well at the Saints, and Richmond will go well too.

So sure you must be right, aren't you? Used same word as you seem to miss the Butler one in your response. Just remind me what/how we won from the Butler trade.
Who let him get out of contract? Not our brilliant LM team, surely? Who failed to value him properly due to coming back from an injury issue?

Sounds familiar. Except Higgins under contract. Really exercised our bargaining power, eh.

Jacks was exploding his gps in the games he played in 2020.

I thought he was our best small forward in the first half of the year. At the games, his workrate was incredible.

But id say hes been told of a deficiency that will keep him out of our side. And i imagine Jack and his advisers have deemed it a deficiency he probably cant overcome. And that its a deficiency that St.Kilda can live with. And hes made a call.

Youre not a footballer for long

Yes we did, we got a future 2 rd pick in what is a bumper draft & a 4 pick upgrade

Anyway its done, you are welcome to let it keep you awake at night

Coming from another angle on this, there is the position of Jack Ross. I am a big fan of Ross and think he will play a lot of football for us. Ross has been patient but I'm sure the club would like to see him playing regular games next year. I think Ross fits in to our game style beautifully. Richmond man.

Also RCD. Similar situation.

Yes, we have paid unders but I wish Higgo all the best.

I think it is way unders for an under contract first round draft pick. There is no point keeping players who don't want to be there though. I think it's a mistake by Jack to leave after three years and not fight for his place in the team.

I cant remember a trade like this ever.
3rd year high draft pick.
Wants to leave despite a contract to the club he supported as a kid.
It doesn't sit well with my opinion of him.

Youre not a footballer for long

You could be right on distance covered. I just thought he looked slower and less agile than in 2018 and early 2019. I reckon he put on too much bulk (maybe intentional but maybe also due to reduced workload in preseason?)

Disappointed with what we got for him to be honest. I don't understand why we needed to give the 4th back. I was thinking the delay with the trade was likely something extra coming our way on top of the 2nd and the minor upgrade this year, but then we give a 4th.

Melbourne essentially got me out of Preuss than we did out of Higgins.
