Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

The problem for St.Kilda is that they need to use their first-rounder in the draft either this year or next in order to be able to trade future picks next year. They have designs on trading for King's brother in 2021 and want to use their #17 this year. St.Kilda have done plenty of spending in the past two years and just don't have the currency to get it done.

Agreed thats the exact issue, they want to take a pick in this years draft so they can trade next years potentially for Ben King.

This is why Saints need to get creative and look to bring someone elses 1st rounder in and thats where I think the Dogs first rounder comes into it.

Realistically he is worth the Saints 2021 1st Rounder, but because he actually has requested a trade, we'll end up with the 2nd Rounder. I'm of the view next year's draft will probably run deep, so I think it'll be an okay result.

We will get more than their future 2nd. That was their 1st offer (as thats what they have) but that should be the minimum we get. We should be pushing them to improve it with the position that we are happy to keep him (which I think we are).

He'd be much better off looking at The Hawks, Dogs, Blues or Kangas.

S Kilda are challengers now no more assistance to them.

Not sure how Mrs Higgins would take to him going to the Dogs following their hub-bub in the hub.

He'll be a midfielder and his numbers are comparable to players like McCluggage, Parfitt, Brad Hill and Devon Smith after 43 games. We've had plenty of injuries the past two years and even if he doesn't improve to best 22, he will likely be required at some point.

It would be a luxury and a gamble to let him go at this stage and it just isn't one we need to take. If he still wants to leave in 12 months we can look at it then.

My first reaction is "ungrateful!" I think his manager spoke to him, being a saint's fan the plan is easy to shallow. I'm really disappointed with Jack. Barrett said on trade radio that Conners gets his deals done. For me its st kilda's no 1 pick (current or future) or no trade.

That’s really bad news for Conners.

He is an endurance style mid with good footy sense. We get a midfield injury and he is in. Worth his 17 pick. I would want an equivalent. If we don't get it then hold him to his contract - screw Conners.

The real question isn't if he wants to be traded, but whether he will actually get games next year if he stays. If he gets games then this will all be a memory, if he doesn't then its a Daniher.

By the way in Higgin's defense to those that are a bit miffed. This year if you weren't in the 1's then you were play scratch matches not competition - makes a difference. Also at 21 if anyone says they like you then you go all grass is greener. If Snags heads out then Dow had better bulk up.

His biggest issue is that he doesn't have the foot skills or game awareness to move the ball on quickly when he gets it. Given our whole game plan revolves around this approach he struggles to get a game. Particularly when behind Lambert who is very similar type.

We need to hold the line on getting a 1st rounder
Okay. But riddle me this, who is going to be doing the jokes in the huddle?
Cotchin? Martin? Big Nank?
Forget it. This guy is Richmond version of Kevin bloody Wilson.
You can’t let talent like this walk out the door.

I would get rid of him especially now that he has chosen to go to Stkilda.
I think its his immaturity showing up. Gets dropped misses the chance to play in a GF and cracks the sads and wants to leave.
I was told he wanted to leave during the season.
Compare him to the kids that have hung tough like Ross, CD, Chol etc
See ya.

Ben King signed to the Suns until the end of 2022, not that that means much these days I guess but they may not go after him next year.

With the talent the suns are building on their list they might be trying to bring the King Bros together on the Gold Coast

Has shown he is prepared to work hard to be an AFL footballer, but not prepared to fight for his spot on the team.

I agree with those saying Higgins is a mid. Problem is he has Ross, Dow and possibly RCD ahead of him.

Could be. He barracked for St.Kilda as a kid. So did Dusty and Jack Riewoldt.

Big deal. From the outside it looks like he has crack the sads and wants to leave.
Why didn't Markov leave 2 yrs ago?
Why is Ross hanging around?
CD could've went to Collingwood
Graham couldve cracked the sads when he was dropped.
Im not sure what to think. A pick 17 wants to leave because????
He thinks he will be a regular at Stkilda, so did Gibbs when he went to Adelaide.

Higgins can play our game , either we get just compensation for him or he stays , l don't give a *smile*....

I see no upside in Higgins can kick a goal etc ,but his general field kicking and skills not great I said at the start if we can get a good deal let him go.

Personally I think Higlet sees the writing on the wall with us. Too many ahead of him now.

We shouldn't question his loyalty or ambition. Yep, we stuck by him when he was crook and we gave him a chance when he warranted that. But he isn't best 22 for us at the moment, and he can see that.

The big issue for him really is that while a lot of our younger players are starting to really come one, with Higlet what you get is what you see. He was ready made when we drafted him, with limited opportunity to develop further save for that which comes with getting some experience as an AFL footballer.

I am sure we will drive a hard bargain here and get a fair deal for us.
