Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

I do like Higgins. Like to keep him
Type of player that can pull a goal out of his arse. His lack of pace is his only issue.

The ‘more opportunity’ thing is very annoying. He’s played around 2/3 of our games since being drafted, despite serious health issues last year. There’s no real comparison to other players that are seeking opportunities, such as Fogarty at Geelong, who’s played 17 games in three years. I hope we hold firm on this.
I raised Fogarty b/c it will be interesting to see what Geelong get for him. Compared to us with Higgins.

There's no comparison in the motivations, of the 2 players involved - but in the trade value comparison with these 2 Clubs,. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

His biggest issue is that he doesn't have the foot skills or game awareness to move the ball on quickly when he gets it. Given our whole game plan revolves around this approach he struggles to get a game. Particularly when behind Lambert who is very similar type.

We need to hold the line on getting a 1st rounder

Fair call, hadn't really notice the "another" word he stuck in there.
He would have been referring to Oleg. The word ‘Star’ is very overused. Neither player has been anywhere near our Premierships. Higgo was best 22 for most of his 1st year, but not since.

Agreed Kong.

Is a bit of a momentum killer with the footy in hand when he has too much time to think, in close under pressure he's better.

When he doesnt have time to think good things often happen.

Those floater Pitching Wedge kicks that are easily read and picked off by opposition also have not improved.

His lack of pace is his biggest deficiency as a long term RFC player.

If he's running through as an inside mid he is of much more value but as a small forward he lacks the foot speed to get the pressure ramped up. Problem for him is there is no spot in the middle for him to slot into yet, and there are bigger faster options competing with him next year in Dow, Riley Hyphen, Ross and possibly Stack.

If he goes we do a Dodorro and demand adequate payment.

Agree, great opportunity for us to stamp our authority
This. It appears GWS has finally grown the balls to stand firm against Cameron & Caldwell going for nothing. We need to stand firm too otherwise clubs will continue taking advantage of our kindness

Everyones been reporting how Geelong have offered 2 firsts, yet they are both late and will be 2nds by the time we get to the draft, yet is hardly been reported that they also wanted a 2nd back. Thats just plain ridiculous. I'd have said a fair trade for Cameron is probably a pick around 10 with a 2nd also. Geelong are offering way worse than that.

I don't think the Giants have much choice but to hold firm on this.

He is actually worth a late first rounder - originally pick #17, played 43 games and is not even aged 21 - has great work ethic and shows leadership potential and is entering his prime.

These types of players don’t grow on trees - it just goes to show how strong our list is. Can someone correct me but I only thought the reason he was not in contention to play finals this year was that he had tweaked a calf/ hammy, some soft tissue injury?

Saints future first and nothing less.

We'll draw a line in the sand on Jack given he is a contracted player - its poaching and not welcome.

We are generous with out of contract players not getting a game but this is fundamentally different. Wait till the Saints ex Macquarie banker has to front Balmey! His BS won't hold any weight in that room.

I hope they do just for the Melts.

Yep played 10 or 21 games and was injured for probably the last 5 or 6. Those stating his value is decreased because he wasn't playing are clearly not aware of the facts.

This to me is all about midfield time, and he can see the calibre of the players we have coming through. Lambert also has plenty of footy left in him and I think Aarts looked good this year both forward and when he was higher up the ground.

Got dropped I think first after the rnd 15 Freo win.

I think then did the calf after that.

Higlet has always put a smile on our faces. And kicked the goal of the millennia. BUT...lacks....a.....yard. And he's no Greg Williams. I'll get over this. Hardball it.

Sorry, when I said ‘no comparison’ I wasn’t criticising your point, more his supposed motivation. It’s actually a pretty good comparison as he’s from the same draft and around the same spot, but Fogarty’s quest appears far more genuine. Other players leaving for opportunity, such as Hately and Caldwell have also played far less games.

This kid kicked one of the greatest goals I've ever seen before his injury. His first season was one out of the box.
I like his ambition to be a starting mid & recognise he wants to play at the elite level but we won't give him away cheap.
You want him, you pay the price Saints.

The problem for St.Kilda is that they need to use their first-rounder in the draft either this year or next in order to be able to trade future picks next year. They have designs on trading for King's brother in 2021 and want to use their #17 this year. St.Kilda have done plenty of spending in the past two years and just don't have the currency to get it done.

Realistically he is worth the Saints 2021 1st Rounder, but because he actually has requested a trade, we'll end up with the 2nd Rounder. I'm of the view next year's draft will probably run deep, so I think it'll be an okay result.

Jack Higgins cares a lot about Jack Higgins, always been one to put his own ambitions above other things, and when they arent useful to him anymore he goes. This is that playing out at AFL level.

Not saying it's a bad thing or a good thing, it's clearly gotten him to this level where he is a loved part of a highly successful club. Is a character. Will be good for 12-18 touches and a goal most weeks.
