I agree - I'm getting worried (hopefully just jumping at shadows on PRE...)

Do we have any indication of when we should hear something, or will it likely be the end of the year?

Can everyone please relax...

Deledio will sign soon...

I just hope it's with us!! :help

Lids won’t go. Good players don’t change clubs very often, Judd being a once in a decade exception. The only clubs with the cap space to accommodate him are fellow basket cases clubs that it makes no sense for Lids to join.

Their club may have to overpay slightly to keep him, but that’s the harsh reality of being down for a long time. When push comes to shove he’s too good a player to lose and we’ve got the cap space to match any pay offer he gets.

right on the money Col, bottom line is he is too important to lose as is a Cotchin, and if bling continues his rich form of late he too might be hard to lose, 3 players who are the future of our club.

Some would argue Ottens is another good player to move.

Judd is an exception as he was, at the time, the best player in the league, but good players do move.

With the GC and WS allowances and deep AFL funded pockets, I reckon we'll see quite a few good players moving soon.

Otto probably was too good a player to move, it hindsight it was a bad trade for RFC. People always say we drafted the wrong guys, but there were plenty of other missed picks around Myer and Patto. We won’t make the same mistake twice, hopefully.

I don’t see the expansion teams as a threat for Lids, after a few years of battling on development teams for Richmond Lids is hardly going to want to do it again.

doherz stop stirring crap mate, it's people like you that ruin this football club and the players. Lids isn't going anywhere next year, I know that for a FACT. He loves the club and wants to be successful with the RFC.

when lids can bust a hard tag without running to the fwd or back lines, break a game open and change the course of a match - CONSISTENTLY
then and only then can he be called elite
at the moment he is a talented player with good skills and not much more IMO

After coming out today and saying that he admits he has been disappointing this year, this maybe why the contract is being held up.

He is disappointed with the figure given to him, but it's deserved.

Now livers as ur the last one on this thread talking up elite or not, im going to use ur post to finally pass on to posters on this site what the term elite means...I read some posts which attempt to put meaning to the word elite and i cant bear it no more reading posters continually use the term elite alongside gut running.

The term elite derives from a midfielders ability to use the ball to the teams advantage, to set up play with concise decision making, to be able to hurt the opposition with exquisite skills by either foot or hand, this inevitably influences games.
To many posters are associating the word elite with gut running, having a core tank doesn’t qualify you for being elite, its another bow to ur string, winning ur own ball is also very important but again it aint what makes you elite it categorizes u from being either outside or inside mid or being able to do both...Jackson i reckon is a gut runner or very close to it but he aint elite cause he’s skills let him down and more importantly he simply doesn’t make the right decisions to the betterment of the team..
Tucky too is a hard runner, wins clearances, hard at it but the most important aspect of a gun midfielder is decision making and foot & hand skills which either puts the team fwd or has u turning over the ball...

Astute,

Great post....really!

To me...the term "elite" means exactly what you say "midfielders ability to use the ball to the teams advantage, to set up play with concise decision making, to be able to hurt the opposition with exquisite skills by either foot or hand, this inevitably influences games"....PLUS also the other things you class as what a core player possesses "gut running, having a core tank doesn’t qualify you for being elite, its another bow to ur string".

If a simple core player has a gut-running ability....then I would expect elite midfielders to automatically have this.

Its why someone like Judd is classed as "elite".....Ablett is "elite"....they have the qualities you mention AND gut-running ability.

To me "elite" is the complete package.

What's the definition of an elite athlete? Is it someone who psychologically digs deep when there is nothing left when anyone else would drop or is it someone who has extraordinary natural abilities. Personally I believe it is the latter whereas the former has guts and determination. Its an interesting topic though.

lol, whats he gonna take a massive pay cut is he? Where are Carlton going to fit Deledio in with Fevola and Judd taking up most of their salary cap and the likes of Gibbs and Kruezer demanding more in the years to come. The Vissy man is gone so unless Deledio managed to squeeze himself into his will, he aint going to Carlton.

If you don't make crap up, you surely believe in your own crap.
