Brett Deledio (merged)

I actually thought part of the reason he left was because we were shopping him around.

Deledio said yesterday that he'd fallen out of love with the game at the time, and made a curious comment near the end of the season about not being in footy "to scratch around with turkeys". Perhaps he didn't mean it this way, but it's easy to infer that his teammates were the turkeys. That attitude suggests he was shopped with his consent. In the end we got him to a contender. Job done, chapter closed.

My recollection was that both parties were happy to have Lids shopped around at trade time.

Both us and Lids agreed his future wasn't with RFC.

After 2016 debacle Lids packed up his OLDE TIGER kit bag & moved on. Do not blame him one bit & if I was in his shoes I would have packed me bag as well. No ones crystal ball would have predicted Tigers would reign supreme come last Saturday in September 2017. Bravo Zulu Lids.

I think this was posted before we heard Brett's interviews late yesterday when he said at the end of 2016 he was 'cooked' both in his body with his Achilles injury and mentally because both he and the club had performed so poorly. He was ready to quit football when GWS showed interest and gave him a fresh start and a reason to keep going. No hard feelings from me.
Ah yeh, I didn’t realise. I suppose I bought into a story about his arrogance and lust for success. I find it hard to like anyone who doesn’t play for the tigers.

Great player. Super consistently high level from 2008-2014. Mightn't won a lot in that period but we seemed unable to win without him. Skill level as good as any and vice like overhead marking plus the run and carry.

Yep that was how I saw it as well.

IMO - As a younger captain Cotchin was able to prosper without Lids around.

A few negative comments about lids and his ego on this thread. Is any of this substantiated or an outsider’s perception?
So. This is always the challenging question (eg crap rumour mongering or fact?)

So .............. to paraphrase a text I received tonight:.

"Menagola (19 games) and Freezer every now and then have said that he's not not welcome back. Toxic. Arrogant. The Inner sanctum won't have him"

Rightly or wrongly this source is a genuine Tiger supporter and reflects some of the chatter around the club.

I wish LIDS the best - but - in all honesty - I don't get the love. He simply wasn't that good.

IMHO.

............... and herenth lies the point (or not?)

When people that don't follow Aussie Rules lose sight of (and ask) "what would you do if your children don't follow the Tigers"?

I (seriously) look at them in bewilderment! What are they suggesting???

I live in Sydney - hence I understand your silly question.....................

What you don't understand is ............... this will not happen!

SO .......... TBH ............. the reality is that Deledio left the Tigers

He did so - not out of sacrifice - but - because he either had a better offer (eg he liked the money)- OR - he was pushed!

Either way ............ (and he still was a Tiger) .............. he ain't no LEGEND!

RICHO WAS! (is!!!!!)

DYER WAS!

HAFEY WAS!

ROACH WAS!

COTCH IS!

JACK IS!

DUSTY IS!

TAYLOR WASNT!

OTTENS WASNT!

VICKERY WASNT (bwaaaa ha ha)

And to my Sydney friends that don't understand this - I say:

EXACTLY!!!

Is and always will be a tiger. Will always be the 23rd player in 2017. Best player for us over a decade. Class on and off the field. All the best for ur future endeavours , Lids

Tend to agree with Lids being a great Tiger player, but not sure he would go in the Champion bucket

He was Very Good in a team of Meh players. Tiger champion? I don't think so, but basically one of our best 3 for 10+ years and I think one of few who actually delivered on his draft position.

One thing I notice on social media is that he's getting plenty of love form ex-team mates. If he was so toxic, why is he getting so much support from Newy, et al? I too have heard some bad whispers but the ex-player love seems contradictory.

I stand to be corrected but has Lids given the Richmond football club its worth in his retirement speeches ?..

At one point he was the best we had. I do feel for him a little, being with us when we weren’t much chop and then when he leaves we win the Premiership and the contender he went to implodes when he gets there.

A cruel game at times ... even for some of the better players.

That’s BS by Lids.

He thought he was too good for our shitty club and wanted to go to a real club.

He pursued Geelong and then GWS.

Lids thought Richmond was a pace for shitkickers and once the media turned in 2016, he wanted to distance himself from the criticism.

The storms of 2016 shook out our worst characters and steeled our best characters into making a change within.

What you’re hearing is nothing but excuses to make himself look better... as usual.

Let’s call a spade a spade.

"I'd like to thank the players and staff both past and present at the Richmond footy club, which was my home for over a decade. I'm so proud to have played 243 games in the yellow and black and to have achieved two best and fairests and two All Australians there."

He can't say much more than that as he's still hopeful of getting up for the finals.

He would be absolutely filthy we won in 2017, and I take great pleasure in that.

it will end up defining his career to be forever know as the player who left for a premiership.
