Brett Deledio (merged)

I don't think he was filthy at us winning. He would have been devastated, confused and depressed. But nothing to get angry about other than with himself.

Gee there's some sour cases on here. Deledio played 12 seasons for the Tigers and 243 game , the 18th most of all time for the Tigers. He played in an era where we were totally sh!t. He could have moved on in search of greater success anytime as he's a great player. He goes down as a champion of the Richmond FC 100%. What happened in 2016 is of no consequence, We don't know the exact story - we just make our opinions on unverrifiable rumours. Regardless, he owed no-one anything by then, he did the hard time and was loyal to the end whilst he remained a Tiger.

Yeah, I doubt he was filthy at us winning the 17 flag, I imagine he went to the zoo because he didn’t want to watch the Tigers win knowing he could’ve been a part of it.

So. This is always the challenging question (eg crap rumour mongering or fact?)

So .............. to paraphrase a text I received tonight:.

"Menagola (19 games) and Freezer every now and then have said that he's not not welcome back. Toxic. Arrogant. The Inner sanctum won't have him"

Rightly or wrongly this source is a genuine Tiger supporter and reflects some of the chatter around the club.

I wish LIDS the best - but - in all honesty - I don't get the love. He simply wasn't that good.

IMHO.
I prefer to listen to what our senior coach has to say about him. He’s probably better credentialed than the two you name.

There was a Foxtel show a couple of years ago and it had 3 or 4 ex-players sitting round a table including 3 time Tiger Premiership player (67, 69, 74) Barry Richardson and Sam Newman and I can't remember who else - maybe Mike Sheehan and one other player. Dunno. Anyway it was a very honest conversation between them all.
And Barry R was talking about being injured for the 1973 GF and that it was so hard to look on that there was "almost" (and I stress "almost") a feeling of not wanting your team to win. (I'm pretty sure I haven't misrepresented him here)
I remember the others on the table saying they understood what he meant.

My take is that this a not an unusual thing (and can happen at levels of footy - and other sports too.)

And I suspect Lids would have been feeling something similar on our 2017 GF day.

This and the one with Dimma was good, but I'd love to see Lids in our rooms with most of his other former teammates.

Lids was great for us, however, the game has greatly changed in the way players have the freedom to move clubs. I acknowledge his input, however, you need to admire more our current crop for their achievements.

Lids has been through so much personal trauma in recent years. I wish him nothing but the best of luck in the future.

Must b gettin soft in my old age. Not a fan of this pic. Just looks to much like Cotch is being a totally smug prick n leaving it all for Lids to suck up. More than likely that's totally out of context from what was going on at the time, but that's just the way it looks to me.
Lids was a gun player for us over many years n one of the few reasons to watch the side play at times. Career moves are made by players at times, some work n some don't. Much prefer to remember Grigga n Lids doing their retirement lap together n Dimma's hug for Lids after the game, this one just doesn't look right to me.

i thought Lids cut a pretty tragic figure yesterday, and that observation influences my opinion of the pic ..

I know I am out on my own pretty much on this, but I'm not crying for Deledio in relation to him leaving Richmond and missing out on being part of two Richmond flags.
He made the decision to leave Richmond, because he thought we were a rabble (for much of his career at RFC we were) and that he would have a better chance of achieving the ultimate success at another club.
That was his call and I have no angst about him (or any other professional footballer) making such a decision.
Perhaps he read the tea leaves incorrectly and it certainly didn't work out the way he would have liked/hoped for te twilight of his career.
I also have this hunch that maybe things started to turn around at Richmond with many of the players he left behind as a direct result of his departing. There does seem to be mixed reviews/opinions/rumours floating about regarding his attitude and influence (negative or otherwise) over parts of the playing group.

Maso you might be getting old but i guess you can view it that way too.

Wasnt there history between the two, friction as Brett thought he should have been made captain..?

Wasnt there a fall out at one stage?

Cotchin has grown as a man, person , leader. In his mind i would hope he wouldnt be that way inclined....

Yeah, I always noticed they probably weren't the best of mates, but I doubt Chimp would do this on purpose.

He said in October 2016.. ‘my club of choice is Geelong’

Do you think the lids situation would help keep some of our current players at the club for unders? Due to him wanting to leave for success yet it didnt go to plan for him. Lids has done us a massive favour unknowingly with his decision.
