Brett Deledio (merged)

Such a brilliant player at his best but injury was always the risk with Brett moving forward. Smart decision by the club but really do hope that Brett can still play some good footy in the twilight stages of his career.

Unlike Richmond GWS don't need him until the business end of the season. They have the luxury of giving Lids all the time in the world to be cherry ripe for the finals.

Lids may only play 10 to 12 games this season but I'm tipping one will be the GF and he is every chance of winning the Norm Smith medal.

This trade will be a win/win, we just need Geelong to take a tumble.

Danger has a niggle already!

Good news, hopefully the worm turns with our luck at the trade table.

With Lids out the door and Enright retired, the ghosts of 2004 have been finally put to bed. In an alternative universe we would have recruited Deledio, Franklin and accepted Geelong's initial offering of pick 16, 32 & Corey Enright. Amazing to think a triple premiership player & 6 X AA winner was the steak knives in the Ottens deal.

He is a big problem for GW$ now. That calf starting to look quite chronic.

Sounds ominous, they signed him for 3 years as well. Must give credit to Richmond here, we have a potential top ten pick in the pocket in what will be a very strong draft for talls (not to mention freeing up some valuable cap space).

Well said Bully, not many will say well done when it is obvious, we got 11 years out of a gun player and we trade him (has been chronic for past 2 years) for a 1st round pick which i would expect to be no later than 12 (if cats finish 6, personally think they will miss finals) and a 3rd, essentially Nank, finally we are getting a little more ruthless and this was a fantstic decision, next step is picking a beauty... So essentially 11 years out of a gun to drop perhaps 9 places in the draft (as Del was pick 1)... Sound decision?

My opinion on Brett has raised another notch. Fully cooked but went out and shopped himself for our benefit

Maybe; certainly a very positive spin. Looking for finals and premiership success to conclude his career a big factor too. Appears he didn't see it happening with us.

It's been a terrible injury for him when you consider that he was so durable for so long. Really has curtailed the back end of his career and as gutfull says it may even end it prematurely.

Amazing how he's had the same injury in the pre season the last 4 years.

Good luck to him and obviously still a chance to play more good footy and who's to know what will do with the 2 picks we received, however I think it was a smart aggressive trade

It was tongue-in-cheek comment

Terrible news for lids but on the other hand a very astute trade.

Yeah. Hope he gets back and plays some good footy this year. But this is exactly the kind of astute trade that we have not been good at for thirty plus years.

I've had similar calf and Achilles problems for the last five years as well. Luckily for me the most vigorous thing I do each morning is walk from the office to the coffee shop.

Strange. I was not only looking forward to watching him play, I was hoping he'd play well.

Hopefully they pop him in cotton wool and still get some good games out of him in the latter stages of the season.
