Early days but this isn't really a surprise is it.
Not to me. Unfortunately I think thus is something that Brett wil, struggle with for the rest of his career abd spend a fair bit of time in the rehab group.

That's bad luck for Brett. From one of the most durable players, to a player destined to be in the rehab group for large chucks of the rest of his career.

Still can't believe what we got for him compared to 4 times premiership player Lewis from the same draft.

Credit to the RFC on this one.

Big blow to the Giants. Might now be tough for them to go undefeated.

wonder what odds youde get on that scotty? quite plausible i reckon, even without Lids.

bad for Lids, a change of luck for RFC. Karmic compo for Yaz?

Haven't seen a market for it but was pretty shocked to see GWS at 1.87 for more than 15 wins. Long wait but supreme value.

I'd say everyone will be happy with this trade. We needed him to play every game, which he clearly will not be able to do, GWS will ease him in and try to get 10 games out of him at the business end of the year and he gets a couple of very realistic shots at a flag as his career fades.

87% interest over 6 months. yeah, good term deposit. hard to get those kind of rates these days.

Bad luck for Lids, but I think I said it before in this thread when some people were knocking his 3km trial run times when he was near the back of the group...

I cant believe they would ask a 29yr old with a history of calf and Achilles problems to be doing that straight off a break.. Anyhow I don't claim to know more that GWS docs however based on his age and Recent history it was never going to work if they pushed his work load up. Really silly to do it to a player who has 12 years of AFL loading into him, its more about player management with Lids id suggest.

Same *smile* different jumper. Same time he pulls up every year for past 3 or 4.

This is precisely why I was all in on trading Lids.

Yep, no need for GWS to panic. But having said that the trade looks a belter for Richmond and the first time we've traded at a high. Smart trading, how unRichmond.

I think they call it the old mans disease, once you start doing calf muscles they tend to keep reoccurring.

Was it a calf or achillies that kept him out last year?

Lids is like an champion racehorse that's unfortunately past his prime. When you get him on the track he can still show you why he was considered a champion, but everytime you try to get him to race conditioning he breaks down. Only options you have are to either race him underdone or retire him, but he will never be as good as he was due to the lack of track work.

I don't think the travel is going to help Lids either, he's going to be expected to travel interstate every second week that is if he can get on the park. GWS will need to manage him extremely well otherwise he will be hanging up the boots in two years time because of injuries and the kids have gone past him.

It certainly looks like being a good trade, but did we shop him around, or did he shop himself around?

GWS have been Carltoned by us.

You're forgetting that they "traded" Stevie Morris to us. They took Devon Smith with the pick we had; we got Brandon Ellis.

We supposedly wanted Smith. We got star jumps and tram tracks instead.

We are the best when it comes to mastermind decisions.

Yes although it was a shock and a loss to see him go, the club negotiated well and we were handsomely rewarded.

Is this his 3rd or 4th straight preseason that he has injured his calf?
To get a first rounder regardless what number it ends up being is a great get by the club.
And throw in a 3rd rounder too
