Brett Deledio (merged)

Yeah not a huge fan of the idea. I dont mind him resting there or going down there to stretch a side. However, we need the guy on the ball. I believe the wing would be the best possy - ala Hird let him go wherever he likes HB/wing/HF....Id almost be inclined to throw Joel Bowden deep and let Lids run on ball. On THursday night though a midfield of Foley, Brown, Bowden, Deledio pretty much changed the game. Perhaps Morton into the team could work.

I must admit I thought he looked disinterested and had no emotion/enthusiasm from start to finish. Thought I would wait to see what he serves up this week before bringing it up. Seems wasted when playing too deep in the forward line, I liked him in the NAB cup game against the saints where he worked up the flanks/wing a bit where he could then deliver inside 50.

Lid's dropped is laughable, Won't happen nor should it at this stage.

Against the Blues Brown played well, Richo played well, Pettifer played well.......Not every foward plays well every week.

But needs to show a bit more, Should improve a fair bit this year.

Throw him in the midfield.

Wallet is being too soft on him. It's his 4th year. And his body is certainly up for it.

Throw him in there.... time to learn the hard way. And I think he's got the skills to learn quickly.

he`s definitely wasted as a permanent forward.
as for being dropped well that`s just ridiculous :hihi.

but we didn`t draft the best midfielder in australia to play as a bloody goal sneak.

i think terry got carried away when lids kicked 5 against collingwood.

we could play lids on ball all day and he`d still manage to kick a couple of goals, but he would also get 20 + possessions and 10 of those would be pin point passes to richo, browny, pettifer or cleve.

i don`t mind him playing forward but he needs to play at least half the game on ball,he`s too talented to leave out of the midfield.

I reckon he had a virus or the flu Thursday night, hardly looked to get out of a gallop.

Needs to lift the workrate that is for sure. He should be a carbon copy of Brad Johnson, that is the type of player he should be aiming for. People forget that Johnson was a elite goal kicking wingman before he become a marking option.

I wouldn't drop him yet but would put him on notice. Needs to harden up and have more desire for the contest. If he has those two attributes he will be nigh on unstoppable. Has escaped a fair bit of scrutiny in my opinion. The amount of good press he receives compared to Tambling's bad press would have you think they are miles apart on performance.

Imagine a player who was a mix of Lids and Jake King - unstoppable!

The one play that Lids won me for (he didn't do much else) was in the last quarter on the CHF line when he beat 3 blues and the ball eventually got to N BROWN for a goal. You could see N BROWN point to Lids acknowledging his effort. Would like to see a bit more though!

Definitely looked pale. Perhaps it was the hair?

Not sure if your taking the P-1 double S, but I just thought he looked off.

The jungle drums say he has shaved the coconut and looks much better.

I'm not actually. I thought he looked pale.
I don't think the black hair helped with that but I agree with you that he didn't look anywhere near 100%.

I knew I'd be taken to the cleaners for raising the possibility of giving him something to think about. And I will point out that I did say if nothing had changed by the time it got to mid-season...

And although he's shown more than Bling on many occasions, why would it be totally acceptable for one and not the other under the same circumstances. I've noticed quite a few people mention that they thought Brett looked uninterested. Hyperthetically, if a pattern was to develop, a senior coach would not be doing his job properly is all I'm saying. I want him in the team, don't get me wrong and I'm certainly not suggesting that he should be dropped now. But there is no way you can have untouchables at any successful club. This applies to the team as a whole.

I was just about to post that, that play stood out in my mind. Lids made the contest against 2 blues, brought it to ground, another blue came to rove the pack, 2 of them fell, Lids kept his feet, got the ball, stepped around one, got it to Browny, goal. That was brilliant.

We can be a bit disappointed with Brett because he didn't play near his best on Thursday night.
He may have been a bit crook with a virus, or he may have been following his instructions to the letter, from the coaching staff. He still got 2 goals, and he set up one or two others very nicely. Far from his best game, but hopefully he will better against the Roos.
And speaking of the Roos, and not that I overly care, but I know many Roos supporters are going ballistic at the output, both against Essendon, and basically his whole career, of Daniel Wells. Fair dinkum, if we get disappointed at Deledio for having a quiet night, and for Tambling for not starring every week, given he has now started his fourth year and was pick 4, imagine if Wells was on our team. He has played 2 years more than Brett and Richie, was pick 2 (as good as the same as Brett and Richie) and much more often than not, he looks like he isn't trying near his hardest.
He was pretty average on the weekend. Worse than Brett, and far worse than Richie. Give me Richie anyday, over Wells, especially given that Richie is only just getting an AFL body of a midfielder.
