Has been great. But it is a bizarre coincidence that he wins his rising star award and then completely drops away.

Causation isn't correlation. It certainly isn't a bizarre coincidence that a first year player is struggling at the end of the season, after playing every game.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

If Arnott and Helbig had been fit and mini Maric had a heart he'd have had a well-earned rest by now. Mother Hubbard unfortunately.

Yeah, I think the lad looks cooked. Doesn't have the burst of pace that he had early. That's why we need another three or four mids/flankers.

Not impacting games.

don't wanna be too harch on the kid because he has had a very impressive debut year, but do people think he's been given too many games? as scoop says, he hasn't had a huge impact in a lot of them

Probably, but I'd rather Ellis get games under his belt than A.Maric and Webberly.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

The answer to me is simple - play him as the sub in the remaining games. He's making far too many mistakes to be part of the starting 21.

Geez that's a bit early Draga.

Maybe, but at pick 15, we should be finding blokes who look like they will become A-graders.

I'm concerned by his kicking being of high enough standard to do this.

Hopefully it is a fatigue issue, because his kicking lately has been nowhere near the standard we heard about during pre-season, when he was being groomed to be our designated kicker.

I reckon we burnt him. Should've been given a rest at Coburg weeks ago.

Have a look at the guys taken after him. Tell me which one you think looks like an A-Grader.

He's a kid who in 6 months went from being a TAC Cup player to regularly competing against elite professional athletes with years of professional training and fitness.

Agree that it is far too early to tell.

I'm just worried about his kicking.

Who would you play instead of him at the moment?

That's the crucial part of all this.
He is copping a bagging from some supporters because he is an exhausted kid being forced to play because our mature depth is abysmal and we can't even find a half decent rookie to rest him.
It's not Brandon's fault we stuffed up about 5 drafts from 2000 to 2005.

It's a similar situation to those who bagged Shane Edwards because he "had played close to 100 games". Well, if he had been drafted to a decent mature squad he would have spent the first 2 years developing in the ressies and everyone would be talking about this young developing kid who broke out after a few years and 50 games in the seniors.

We are still 2 to 3 years away from being able to bring in 1st and 2nd round draft picks and them actually thinking, geez, it'll be tough for me to get a go here unless there are lots of injuries, which is the way it is for premiership teams.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

As far as I can tell Brandon has played more games than any 18 year old draftee this year. No wonder he is cooked.

A remarkable effort to play as many as he has but he's struggling and as has been said ideally we'd be giving him a rest if we had half decent cover. Compare it to the massive rotations at GWS. It is what it is.

Well put...we've found a solid citizen I believe, no star but good reliable player he will be
