Brandon Ellis

People have questioned his courage at times but I think this is more to do with his lack of composure. When you hot potato the ball and fumble as he has done a lot in the past the assumption is that he is scared. I think he does indeed show a lot of courage and the last month he has been playing with composure. I think this has been the biggest difference in the last few games. It only took him 150 games to look composed! In comparison it took Sydney Stack 150 seconds.

It might also be how we understand the gameplan.
Brandon hot potatoes and coughs the ball up = supporters go spare.
But the gameplan is to flick it around, keep it moving, push it forward. The exact opposite of the 2016 ball security plan.

Ellis and to a lesser extent Houli give handballs in a tackle that go loose. This is what we want, but with better connection to teammates.

It is similar to early Shedda who's sublime handballs were out of sync with his teammates.

Do you reckon Bucks will call himself a complete moron in his presser this week?

You are kidding aren't you????

Are you best mates from school? (or similar?)

Did you see the missed tackle that cost us momentum?

Did you see him running around into open space?

Did you see him slow up play (almost every time)?

Yes - he played "okay" tonight - but he is the first out when the regulars are fit and ready to come back!

So many of the young players have over taken him!!

Menadue was far better tonight!

really?

was Menadue in the votes?

Playing better than 2017
yes he is.

He played some really good games early in his career and then seemed to lose it for a while but he is playing top footy this year.

Top 10 in the b&F atm

sounds like your upset he's playing so well, dont think you would have any idea really, if your still bagging him, he will never reach your crappy unrealistic expectations.
TT I get upset when he squibs not when he plays well. And my crappy unrealistic expectations are only the level of play he reached in 2014-15 when he didn't panic. I'm not bagging just stating facts. Personally I place him in front of Houli who has the same panic issues but is less constructive with the ball. Houli looks like a better kick the Bellis helicopters are more reliable.

Personally I pick Stack and Ross in front of both of them, better contested marking and more poise with ball in hand. There is a role for the outside player who can't contest in the air and occasionally panics, but I don't think there is room for three of them (I include Short in this list) If Cotching and Ross are available its hard to see all three of these guys playing in the one team.

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

He's barely in our best 22 (even with his recent "serviceable" games)!

Name the 12 players you reckon he is ahead of.

I can't think of more than 2 or 3.

your opinions and ideas must be pretty solid if you can afford to be laughing at others for what they think

The players he would be in front of in our current best 22 in the b&f:

CCJ (this week or Soldo last week) , Rioli, Balta, Menadue, Broad, Castagna, Bolton, Garthwaite, Baker, Higgins at a minimum.

Probably also Martin and Stack on consistency/number of games.

Would be pretty close to even with Lambert, Kmac, and Houli.

When someone makes a comment that is laughable in it's absurdity.......then yes, I'm gonna laugh.

.....but thanks for being such a white knight. I'm sure Sintiger was absolutely devastated by my mocking tone.

He can avoid finding the nearest safe space now thanks to your virtuous, moral indignation. :clap

For whats its worth i would say the JDyer voting is something like this:
Ellis has had a couple of excellent games to rank highly.
Its quite reasonable to suggest he is top 10

Top rank - Shedda Prestia Dusty Grimes Houli Lambert Stack
Going well - Ellis Kmac, Flossy, Nank Rioli Higgins Baker
Average votes (meeting expectations) -Broad Lynch, Astbury Castagna Ross Balta

Not enough matches - Rance Cotch JR Soldo Butler Garth JGraham Short Markov Bolton Caddy

It will be very interesting during the b&f count at the end of the year to see where Ellis is at round ten. You may end up sheepish.

the issue i have with Ellis is that he was a much better player earlier in his career. i remember a game in his second year where he amassed 40 possessions against Melbourne for example. The rot started in the Norf final when he got tagged out of the game. I reckon that performance destroyed his confidence, he has never recovered and has been fragile ever since. you'd think the scars would have evaporated after playing in a premiership, but I don't think it has. yes he was servicable without being a star in 2017 and has been reasonable in some games this year. But he is 26 in a couple of months and in the peak of his career. at best Ellis is in the bottom 6 of our best 18. we should be expecting much more of him when you think back to the promise he showed in his early years.
