2 years should be the offer with an option for a 3rd. Keep him hungry. Hasn't done much at all yet.

Hasn't been given much opportunity to do much under Dimma. But when eventually he was given a decent opportunity he proved he belonged.

In other sports - its wise to lock down 'key assets' on long term contract

If you do that with all your players you are stuffed. Depends how you define "key" of course.

I personally see Lennon as a key component in our future. Has a lot of scope for improvement.

Not
all the players are 'key assets'

young, former first round draft picks - Lennon

or genuinely above average players - Miles

a lot of scope for improvement.

Wants a 4 year deal

Raises eyebrows at this stage. Ellis did much more in his first two years and asked 'Where do I sign?".

Hope we're not dealing with another *smile*.head manager.

Dimma/Dan Richo (can't exactly remember) later came out and clarified that 'where do I sign?' as being a tad hyperbolic on Brando's part.

As for Benny, 4 years may seem like a lot but I wouldn't mind it tbh. If he keeps developing at the rate he is going, the last 2 years of that contract are going to be a bargain.

Spot on I think he's shown enough this year that we should lock him down.

He's 20, you can lock him down at a reasonable price for four years, you do it. Trajectory is going up, quickly. 4 years, 1.2 million, sold. Absolute steal.

The manager is being very stupid. A two year deal with a option for a third should be what he is after.

From the article

""But Tigerland's a great place and they've given me the opportunity, so it would be good to stay with them.""

The pessimist in me makes this sound like someone who isn't 100% committed to staying a Tiger. I get a scene of a kid who didn't like refining/learning the rigorous of AFL via the VFL team. I could be a million miles off but hope he stays at Richmond, especially if we sell the Farm with 1st round picks on Motlop or Trelore. Yarran for mine is at best 2nd rounder or even less!!

I was surprised also when I read this

The use of the words 'they've' and 'them' implies to me he's not fully buying in to the team. The word 'good' implies to me a lack of excitement. Perhaps reading too much into comments of a 20yo but he doesn't come across as keen as mustard.

I think you are reading far too much into it. The alternative view is that he has said he wants to stay and that Tigerland is a great place.

I got that sense too from that quote too. He seems tight knit with McBean and McDonough, so maybe waiting to see what happens with them. Maybe they'll all be off to Carlton for Yarran. I've been told he's that good by some apparently!
