Play him to pump up his trade value? He's out of contract at the end of the year he can just walk. This doesn't help us. There was a position vacant and he got the call up. Why do we need other theories?

yeah well I hope he doesn't walk to the blues via the PSD

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Good size, good hands, footy smarts, just needs a bigger tank - which should come with more pre-seasons.

Hopefully sticks around.

seriously, if he had that little ambition, we wouldn't want him !!

Guaranteed game time, a larger wage. Players have before.
All be it, I can't think of a worse rabble of a club to go to, No coach, players in limbo, some reported to want to leave. He'd have to have rocks in his head.
But I still want him to stay.

Come on everyone - seriously!
All this conjecture (about the possibility of losing Lennon) is based on another completely separate skerrick of baseless, unproven and illogical conjecture (that Lennon threatened to walk).

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Great to see Ben play two good games against quality opponents in the Dockers and the Hawks, he is tracking very nicely.

Ant man we don't live in a perfect world. If I was coach and a player pulled that stunt I wouldn't be too impressed. But not too bloody minded to see that it would be in the best interests of the club to play him to either pump up his trade price or find out if he can play so the football dept. can bump up his contract offer.

Personally I think you are off with the fairies on this one. Dimma would never forgive or forget that. Neither would the rest of the team.

Of course it's conjecture. But I wouldn't anything past that cheating mob or the inducements they'd be prepared to offer. ;D

That I agree with

according to the reports an offer was made and there are two things that can happen he either signs or doesn't in this case he refuses to sign the contract on offer and puts negotiations of til years end.
There's actually a third option n that is to continue negotiations as the year progresses.
Been plenty of statements made by various players n player managers over the years that a player has put off negotiations until years end, n then the manager keeps right on negotiating anyway.
If Ben wants to leave, there's nothing can stop him, he just might not get to exactly the club he wants to, or he might be happy to spend his career getting reasonably well paid at a crap cellar dweller club, who knows?
Perhaps Ben thinks he's worth a bit more than the base they were offering him, good luck Ben, force your way into the senior side n then prove you're good enough to keep it. Might just have timed a smart move brilliantly enough to earn himself a bit fatter contract than first offered.
Maybe Ben's got the same manager as Tom Boyd n reckons some clubs gunna pay him a mill a year for struggling along in the magoos.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

What's with this talk of him leaving? Have not seen one piece of evidence suggesting this whatsoever.

Loving having this quality filling the bottom 6 places in our best 22 though. That's what is required in September in order to progress.

Apparently he used extortion to get a game - clearly a dishonest character who can't be trusted if you listen to yandb

Geez it's so hard to get these fixations out. Like the most indelible stain ever discovered.
AGAIN and AGAIN it's explained.

IT WASN"T A CHOICE BETWEEN THOMAS AND MILES. (or at least shouldn't have been)
WE WERE ALLOWED TWO ROOKIE ELEVATIONS TO REACH OUR TOTAL SENIOR LIST.
MARIC HAD A LONG TERM INJURY AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE LTI LIST.
RATHER THAN ELEVATE STEPHENSON AS A LTI REPLACEMENT FOR MARIC and ELEVATE THOMAS AND MILES, RICHMOND ELEVATED STEPHENSON AND THOMAS AND KEPT MARIC ON THE INJURY LIST FOR OVER EIGHT WEEKS.(the replacement time) Stephenson only played one game as a replacement for Maric.

It wasn't Thomas OR Miles.
It was Thomas AND Miles with Stephenson as an injury replacement.

Not sure what the caps is about but the bottom line is Thomas was elevated, Miles was not. I distinctly remember it at the time because I, and most people I knew who had seen the pre-seson games wanted Miles elevated, not Thomas.

OK you win. I give up.
Like trying to reason with a rock.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Just watched the game again. Ben's kicks to Vickery and Riewoldt were absolutely elite. His strength in marking is fantastic for his age. He's a keeper and will be a gun. A lot to like.

Where at any stage antman did I claim that?

It seems that it is you who can't be trusted to accurately quote what other posters write.

But I've seen your posts too and at the very least you're implying that Lennon got selected by forcing the hand of the coach/selector(s).
What about this one below?
And it's either coincidence or bloody nonsense - or both.

yandb said:
It is a logical conclusion to draw that four days after Lennon refuses to sign a contract but puts it off til years end he gets selected in the seniors for his first game in 10 weeks and second for the year.

Fanciful or logical?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Exactly where is the extortion? all I posted is that he refused to sign and four days later he gets selected I did not mention extortion blackmail or any of the kind.

But if you blokes want to interpret it that way then that is your problem.

So, what is the generous interpretation?
