Is he enough of a player to make chasing a motlop a lesser priorit?

He could be that player we desperately need - at least now we can see how he goes over a bloc of games. Whether he has the Motlop speed I doubt.

Love the way the club kept him in the VFL to develop his game till he is ready and we are now seeing a more rounded player already. It is rare to see a first year player miss do an Ellis or Vlas and miss very few games in their early days.

Morris ahead of Lennon all year, what a joke that was.

Or he needed the development in the twos and was selected at the right time.

Perhaps the VFL coaches were spot on and Dimma right to make him earn his spot because it appears his workrate is going right up.
Thought he was terrific last night. His skill level is adding much needed class. A clear point of difference in many contests.
I long reckoned that's the case. Some were quick to write him off because after one and half seasons he'd only played a handful of (lacklustre) games.
But credit to our recruiters and the coaches for their long term planning with this bloke.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Best game I have seen Ben play at either VFL or AFL level. I were one of the people posting that his desire and will to chase & tackle at VFL level was lacking and was was worried if he would rest on talent alone. Good development call to leave him stewing in the two's as he has come in and had a very promising block of 3 and seems to now realize the pressure acts required to stay in this Tiger outfit. No front runners allowed!!!

Cameos. Looks composed. Has class. Building

Ain't he? Really looking at home. Halved a lot of contests in the air, contested .

Class ain't the issue here. Work rate will determine success.

Building.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Has learned the forward's art of falling forwards to draw a free kick.

It looks like Lennon has been shot.

The main reason he started getting a gig in the seniors was that he refused to sign a contract.

This shows either it was a massive coincidence or that like other players before him he had been very undervalued.

So you are saying he didn't earn his promotion?

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Ben only turned 20 a month ago. His body type is one that is going to turn into a significant size and whilst he he will never have elite pace he has great hands overhead , very good skill level and a beautiful hoof.

I can see him as a medium forward pinch hitting in the middle as a big bodied midfielder. Last year he was just too lightly framed to survive in the heat, he wasn't scared just not confident.

I think that club has handled him beautifully. His apprenticeship has taught him how to be a better allround AFL footballer instead of relying on his skill alone, which he probably could do as a junior.

Undervalued in this case means the coach did not value what he had to offer the team enough to promote him to the seniors.

I was stoked when he was promoted but noted that it was four days after he refused to sign a contract offer but put it off till seasons end.

Strange but last year they did a similar thing with Snipper, made him play half a year in the magoos, playing consistently well n forced him to learn all the team structures n requirements. Such a farce for so long n it worked perfectly. As soon as Snipper was given a run, he grabbed the opportunity n has been running flat out with it ever since, much to our delight.

Why not a similar pathway for Ben? Kids got plenty of skill n talent but an immature body n work ethic. Make him work hard, do all the things the coaches require regarding structures n work ethic. Show him the target, there's Stevie M. Half your talent but double your work ethic Ben, his spot in the side is available if you want it n work for it. Two games in for Ben n he'll get more, still a work in progress obviously, now it's up to him to continue the work to consolidate his opportunity which could well be a finals spot this year.

Have no doubt the club is treading the same pathway with the Beanie, get him playing rock solid consistent footy while he matures his physique n no doubt that a spot will open up for him n he'll be ready to step into the team n perform the required role.

His promotion could have been just as easily been round four when we were struggling, Menadue was about 7 kgs lighter when he was given his first game.

Fitness might be a concern but bravery isn't. That intercept mark he took running back with the flight showed some cojones.

Love his skills just needs to find a little more pill.

Tm Miles showed enough in the preseason to warrant promotion from the rookie list but Dimma chose to promote Thomas. Even when Miles was eventually promoted due to a long tern injury to another player it wasn't until the third week that he was given his opportunity and proved that he always belonged in the senior team.

Miles understanding of team structures didn't magicaly change one week an then Dimma says you are ready. Dimma commented afterward he didn't realise how good Miles was.

agree - I think this is the right approach - could Lennon become our Bartel.

its how Hawthorn go about it - players come in when they know our systems back to front. I also think it comes down to who they are competing against for that spot.

and, sometimes from the outside it is very hard to know the reasons why some players get selected before others
